Gotta be tough to stand out in a bunch of athletes that are more or less equal. Couple of good plays here or there could be the difference. And, it's been my experience, that once a coach hones in on 'his' player, it's quite tough to change his mind and look your way. In the day, I tore everybody up on the court the week leading up to a game, but didn't get me off the pine. Was quite pissed, and one guy (a starter), asked me why, do you think you should've started? Said, no, but I certainly earned a shot at a few minutes. Coach was a driver's ed teacher, and didn't know the game. PS, by the way, I was a 0 star player in HS.
