DC/LB Coach Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

But it’s safety’s and linebacker’s covering them. That isn’t our weakness.

If this was a team with three NFL wide receiver’s the chances would be essentially zero.

Anything better than zero is a plus.
Depends which safeties though. They've got to be a bit bigger or we'll just get pushed around.

Priority #1 is still stopping the run... hope that Knowles can put together a sound game plan.

They are going to hurt us, no getting around that. It’s all relative though. The damage elite WR’s would do to our CB’s infinitely greater than what even the two best TE’s in CFB can do to our safeties/lb’s.

Speaks more to how completely insufficient our corners are than confidence in our safeties.

Honestly, I see the gameplan we used against Notre Dame as the closest thing we can hang our hats on in this game. We shadowed their very good TE all game and limited his effect on YAC. It's harder to do vs 2 of course but NDs Oline is very good also. We're better than we were then even screwing up big time vs TTUN. We can neutralize the run and keep the long passes to a minimum for the TE's. The scary part for me is if Bennett starts to run, which he definitely can do. It really is just like the scum game with better athletes.

I'd bet vcash that the D plan that shows up against GA will be pretty vanilla. Maybe some blitzes, but none of the 'all-out' rushes that were employed against Xichigan. One led to a TD reception, and two made Donovan Edwards a first rounder......
Thanks for the reminder. I had almost forgotten.

Personally I haven't liked our safety play since Iowa either.

I think those are the growing pains of learning such a complex system. Normally coverage is the last component to be mastered when a new defensive system is rolled out.

Thankfully we have 3+ weeks to hammer this game plan. I just really hope we aren't stupid aggressive again that's all. I love blitzing but maybe send 1-2 when we do instead of 7. I also have been thinking that maybe it'd be best to have Jack/JT/Harrison out there at the same time with Jack being more like a 3rd LB.

Stunning revelations on 11W today. Big plays did us in against tsun. They were a thing all year. It's part of Knowles philosophy. News at 11....

...Knowles said early in the season that five explosive plays in a given game – while not celebrated – is a number he can tolerate due to the nature of his scheme.

So Day has another defensive coordinator on his hands that requires Day's offense to score 40+ against a good team if he wants to win while good defenses seem to show a consistent ability to frustrate a Day offense and keep them in the low 30's.

I'm excited for a few more years of this shit, I can tell you that.

This is basically how it’s going to be until the ship is righted. Just when I’m able to shift my focus, here it is again. The sewer dwellers are pulling their scUM gear from the basement already in OH. Starting to crop up all over.

Buckle up, might be in for a long ride…
