DC Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

People wanted him fired after last season? We had a top 5 D. I remember more of that talk after his first season when we gave up 40+ back-to-back to end it
He was being questioned for sure and rightfully so. People are swinging way too far to the other end of the spectrum with the recency bias here. The big question when Knowles came in was could he do a 1 year turnaround or does he need to have a senior laden group. The understanding being, you don’t get 3-4 years at Ohio State to get it right.

Well here we are and it’s taken a senior laden defense and the inbound transfer of an elite safety to get to this level. The slate gets wiped clean next year.

It’s the same guy whose defenses got exposed badly in ‘22. Is that the real Knowles or is it what we have seen in this 3 game playoff heater?

Like most things it’s probably firmly somewhere in the middle.

Actually, the condemnation of Knowles belongs in the BMW thread. This guy has had defenses ranked #1 across several critical stats and there have been some fans on here BMW'ing about firing him.

Knowles is a rock star. He turned a rather pedestrian defense around very quickly. The stats speak for themselves against arguably the toughest schedule anyone played this year.

Agree. Knowles first season, a vast improvement over sentient can of red bulls defense the year prior, had big play problems because he took too many risks (Risks he was used to taking at the other osu he worked for, and needed to take, frankly). Year two, continued improvement over year 1, but less turnovers owning to a more conservative play style. Year 3, improved yet again... year four.... here we are

Maybe that's recency bias, I don't know, but the Defense has been improved every year under him, and the Defense has been the backbone of the team for the last 2, at least until the offensive brain trust figured out that they should throw the goddamned ball to Smith.

Apologize.

Then apologize.
I do. I bow down to Days brain and his BWC.

I was a harsh critic of Day, Knowles, Frye, LJ... I thought I knew more about ball than them.

Don't let your memes be dreams. Heal the timeline. Poetic it's ND. The team we should have curb stomped in 2013. We are about to right all the wrongs in the universe since then and single handily fix all the weird Mandela effects.

GO BUCKEYES. Choose positivity.
