Former captain Chico Nelson's death likely a suicide, authorities say
Tuesday's shooting death of former Ohio State University football captain Willie “Chico” Nelson was “most likely a suicide,” Grove City Police Det. Sgt. Chris White said today.
Nelson, who was staying with Grove City residents who knew Nelson and went to church with him when he was in the area, left no note before police believe he used a handgun to shoot himself in the chest.
“There were some good-bye text messages on his phone to those closest to him,” White said. Those text messages, he added, were sent out “immediately prior to” Nelson's death in the home on Kay Court.
