DB Tyler Everett (official thread)

Tyler Everett was signed as an undrafted free agent by Denver Broncos in 2006. Since then he has been with the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. Everett was added on the roster during the Bears super bowl run to help out at safety. I?m not fond of adding veteran players, like Everett, who have traveled through an array of teams and been cut. He was cut this past season by the Vikings and they must have noticed something in his skills that made them wonder. It?s only been a few months since and I doubt Everett has added anything special since then. Keep this guy on the practice squad and hope that he can turn things around this season.

Alan Ball, Quincy Butler, Tyler Everett, Evan Oglesby, Orlando Scandrick are battling for the last three roster spots. That?s a bunch of players that the Cowboys have brought in, primarily because the Cowboys are looking to find that hidden gem within these no-names to become a stopper at the 4th and 5th corner positions.

Name: Tyler Everett
Position: Cornerback
Number: 37
Height/Weight: 5-11, 202
Age: 24
College: Ohio State
NFL Exp: 1st year
How Acquired: FA-'08
Hometown: Canton, Ohio

Fitting In: While the Cowboys still have Everett listed as a cornerback on the official roster, they moved him to safety back during the OTA and mini-camp sessions. That's sort of a crowded field with two Pro Bowl starters, Ken Hamlin and Roy Williams, an established backup in Pat Watkins and then second-year player Courtney Brown. But when Hamlin missed all of the off-season workouts, it was Everett working on the second team with Brown.

So Far: At least the coaching staff knows who he is, and even the head coach Wade Phillips commented during an OTA practice when asked about the depth at safety, saying, "that No. 37" is making plays." Plus, he has some special-teams skills which already have caught the staff's eye.

Best Asset: He brings a corner's cover skills to the safety position, where normally corners who can't cover land. The Cowboys moved him there because of the crowded cornerback field, not because he couldn't play.
You Should Know: He did play with the Chicago Bears for the final three games of their 2006 Super Bowl season after spending time on the team's practice squad. He was a former running back in high school, from none other than Canton, Ohio, home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

A Mouthful: "My best and favorite hobby is cooking. I love to cook. People don't believe me, and then I cook something and they say, 'Oh man you can cook!.' I love Emeril!"

Eskimos sign trio of defensive backs

Last week, the Edmonton Eskimos signed a four-pack of receivers. This week, the team inked a trio of defensive backs.

The Esks announced Monday that imports Brandent Englemon, Tyler Everett and Therrian Fontenont have been signed to contracts and will attend Edmonton?s training camp in early June.

Englemon, 24, played four years at the University of Michigan, starting 27 games at safety.

Everett, 25, played for Michigan?s biggest rival in the Big 10, Ohio State, before spending time on the NFL practice squads of the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. He played in the final three games of the 2006 season with the Bears when they advanced to the Super Bowl.

Four rookies axed while veterans cleared
By GERRY MODDEJONGE
Last Updated: 7th June 2009

The Edmonton Eskimos cut four rookie defensive players yesterday in preparation for main camp to begin today.

"We have to get down to our numbers," said Eskimos head coach Richie Hall, who is only allowed to have 68 players --along with a handful of draft picks and juniors -- on the roster once training camp gets underway.

Brandent Englemon, Darnell Terrell, Tyler Everett and Rory Johnson were released.

"They did a solid job for us, but we felt that the other guys adapted a little bit quicker and performed at a little bit higher level consistently," said Hall. "I know we're at the numbers that we need to be at for training camp.

"We knew coming into the rookie camp that we were going to have to make some decisions and the players were very much aware that they were still being evaluated."
