What are your thoughts on the timing of your bye week this season?

"I think it's a good spot. You are going ten games straight and for us to be first in the division we're right where we want to be. We still have a couple more tough games to finish out. It will be a good week for us to get healthy and get rested up then come back and get to work for the next six weeks.

What are you doing for the bye week? Since it's been such a long season and such a grind do you try to get away from it all?

"I am kind of workaholic. I am still in town and I will be here till Friday. I will hang around and I am still watching some film on the Giants. I will get up to Ohio State this weekend to check out their game against Penn State. It's still a crucial part of the season. It's not the time to take completely off. We have to continue to get better so that process continues through the bye week. It may not be as intense but I will check out some film and see what's going on."

It was the New Orleans Saints free safety, not Will Smith or Shaun Rogers, who stonewalled Turner for no gain on the decisive fourth-and-inches play in overtime. Official scorekeepers initially credited Smith and Rogers for the tackle.

While both Smith and Rogers did an excellent job of beating their men at the point of attack, it was Jenkins who made the initial contact on Turner in the backfield and stopped his forward progress. From there, a swarm of Saints defenders engulfed Turner, who never had a chance to reach the line of scrimmage.

I expect Saints coaches to officially credit Jenkins with the tackle once they review the game tape.

New Orleans Saints Malcolm Jenkins has no qualms with teammate Roman Harper's agressive play

New Orleans Saints free safety Malcolm Jenkins said he doesn't have much of a problem with Tennessee Titans receiver Nate Washington accusing Saints strong safety Roman Harper of being a "dirty player" after Sunday's 22-17 Saints win over the Titans.

In fact, Jenkins said he wishes -- he too -- one day would be singled out for his aggressive play.

"I can't wait to get that crown," Jenkins said. "When somebody says you are a dirty player that means that they respect you in some way. And you are obviously doing something to jump out on film when they feel you are too aggressive.

"It's almost like they fear you. When someone calls you dirty that means they always have their eyes on you and they are worried about what you are doing.

"I think it is a culture that we breed. I wouldn't say that we are a dirty team, but we are a tough team and we play to the whistle. And I think people notice it."

METAIRIE, La. ― Carl Nicks isn?t so sure the scouting report on him would be that he?s fundamentally sound and technique proficient.

Malcolm Jenkins knows he has a ways to go to become the player he?d like to be.

And yet, both Nicks, New Orleans? left guard, and Jenkins, the Saints? free safety, were named to USA Football?s All-Fundamentals Team on Thursday.

?This, for me, especially is my third year and really my second year playing safety,? Jenkins said. ?This wouldn?t be something I thought would have came so soon. It feels good because I work hard every day.?

Jenkins and Nicks are two of 26 players selected by a five-person committee, players who display ?exemplary football techniques for youth players to emulate," according to the organization.

In the release announcing the honor, Nicks was singled out for his run blocking and drive blocks. Jenkins, meanwhile, was singled out for the he breaks up passes, which, strangely enough, is what he feels like he needs to work on.

?Right now I look at my game and I think the biggest thing separating me from where I am now to where I want to be is catching the ball, making interceptions,? Jenkins said.

Saints strong safety Roman Harper and free safety Malcolm Jenkins were voted second and fourth alternates at safety, meaning they would be invited to play in the annual all-star game if the NFC players in front of them decline to attend.

Though both would be honored to compete for the NFC if the opportunity presented itself, each has his eyes on a much bigger prize: Playing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy on Feb. 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

"We can't control who goes or doesn't go to the Pro Bowl,'' Jenkins said. "All we're worrying about is winning. We go out there and play hard for each other.

"I feel like we have Pro Bowl-caliber players on our team. Whether the rest of the league feels that way, we can't control that. We just continue to focus on our goal and that's to win the Super Bowl. We don't plan on playing in the Pro Bowl anyway. We plan on playing in the Super Bowl. That trumps playing in the Pro Bowl.''

Saints FS Jenkins a disappointment in 2011

Expectations were raised for Malcolm Jenkins in 2011 as he entered his third season, and perhaps the bar was set too high. With Jenkins coming off a promising first season as the Saints' starting free safety, former Saints DE Alex Brown called him one of the three most special players he had ever taken the field with, back in training camp, putting Jenkins in the same category as Brian Urlacher and Jevon Kearse. The Saints were counting on Jenkins to be a playmaker in the secondary, but big plays from him were rare. He made only one sack, didn't have a single interception and forced only one fumble in his 15 starts. He also struggled in coverage vs. TE Vernon Davis in the Saints' devastating playoff loss to the 49ers. The Saints have a new defensive coordinator in Steve Spagnuolo, and he's looking for a DB coach who can help Jenkins ? still one of the team's more promising young players ? put a disappointing performance behind him.
