This is from the chat today

Hi Toledo Pete..that is an affirmative on Jenkins...I like the size and speed of Jenkins and he obviously showed his wares well at OSU's advanced camp. Besides it's a good get for Hazel to make his presence known in the east for OSU. I like his potential but don't know enough to comment on his play at this time. Steve reported that he had the second fastest 40 time at the camp he was at, second to Fred Lenix of Glenville so I like that. I still think we have a great shot at AMW and Oatis is still in the running obviously but he may be on hold at the moment. We need Lenix and Daniels in the fold and then I'll worry about a guy like Oatis later. AMW will likely be a Buckeye eventually.

Sounds good to me. Does that mean he ran faster the Oneal?

New Jersey defensive back commits to Ohio State
Saturday, August 07, 2004
Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Even on the East Coast, Malcolm Jenkins said, folks are catching on to the potential of incoming Ohio State freshman Ted Ginn Jr.

"I think he was a good pickup for the Buckeyes," Jenkins said of Ginn, considered one of the nation’s top recruits this year.

Maybe people will be saying the same thing about Jenkins in a year or so. The defensive back from Piscataway, N.J., became the ninth commitment to OSU’s class of 2005.

"I had it down to a top three, and since the recruiting process is pretty stressful, I decided to go ahead and make the decision," Jenkins said.

OSU gained the nod over Rutgers and Virginia Tech. Jenkins said he had his mother to thank in part for making it happen, because she encouraged him to attend OSU’s summer camp in June.

"I really like it there, and I wanted to impress the coaches so maybe they’d offer me," he said.

After he ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash, Ohio State did offer him a scholarship. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Jenkins, who helped Piscataway win two straight state championships, had no qualms about accepting, even if it means moving 500 miles from home.

"Actually, I’ve got an aunt who lives about 20 minutes away from Ohio State, in Westerville," Jenkins said. "I think I’ll be fine."

Not sure where Tim May got the 5' 10" measurement for Jenkins-everything I have seen has him at just over 6'

Kid moves well...athleticism is not a question. I'm guessing this year will be spent tuning those fundamentals. Proper DB play is hard to coach in HS since the better DBs can afford to get by on pure ability.

Jenkins looked like he was good size in those video clips. Love the way he came up in run support and stuck the RB, and then in the next highlight turned and ran with a WR and defended a deep ball. I like everything I have read/seen about this kid.

Piscataway CB Jenkins gives verbal to Ohio St.
Wednesday, August 11, 2004
BY MIKE HELFGOT
For the Star-Ledger
Malcolm Jenkins understood that the scholarship offers he has received so far, in quality and quantity, meant that many more were almost certain to follow.

But that didn't stop the Piscataway cornerback from making a verbal commitment to Ohio State and joining a growing list of top recruits who have chosen colleges months before the recruiting process comes to a close.

Eager to make a decision before the start of his senior season, the 6-0, 190-pound Jenkins chose the 2002-03 national champion over Rutgers and Virginia Tech. He also had written offers from Syracuse, Boston College and Indiana.

"I feel more comfortable with Ohio State," Jenkins said. "I really like (Rutgers coach Greg) Schiano, but I like the overall staff at Ohio State better."

Rutgers, the first school to offer Jenkins a scholarship, and perennial power Virginia Tech were in the lead until Jenkins attended Ohio State's camp in late June. He posted a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash and impressed the coaching staff with his coverage skills there. They sent him a scholarship offer the following week.

Verbal commitments are not binding and do not become official until recruits sign letters of intent in February. Colleges typically continue to recruit players who commit early and recruits often reconsider before signing day.

"I'm going to acknowledge people recruiting me, but I am only going to visit Ohio State," Jenkins said. "Basically, I'm going to tell them that I'm not interested and it would be a waste of time for me to visit because I'm set in my decision."

I just listened to Malcolm on BNR and he sounds like a great kid.

Malcolm and Piscataway won their first game of the season last night.

Rose found Malcolm Jenkins all alone down the left sideline on a perfectly executed hitch-and-go for a 53-yard TD pass to give Piscataway a 22-0 lead.

We run split end hitches a lot, Rose said. We knew they were going to jump on it, so we faked it and threw a faked split end hitch and fade to Malcolm. They were nowhere near him.
