DB Malcolm Jenkins (All B1G, All-American, Thorpe Award, All-Pro, 2x Super Bowl Champion)

I love all our Buckeyes, past and present, but there are some that just simply stand out above others.

Malcolm is one of them.

I love the way he plays. Very special. One of my favorite Buckeyes ever.

Congrats Malcolm! Well deserved! GO BUCKS!

Ohio State football: Jenkins wins Thorpe Award

Senior cornerback Malcolm Jenkins helped secure his place in Ohio State history when he won the Jim Thorpe Award on Thursday night, given to the best defensive back in the nation. "I think now I'll be remembered among the greats. I don't know if I'll be the greatest, but the only other Thorpe Award winner at Ohio State was Antonio Winfield [in 1998], and just to be known and ranked with him is an honor," Jenkins said by phone from Orlando shortly after taking the stage at the Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN.
With his parents, his high school coach and teammate James Laurinaitis by his side, Jenkins felt the nerves as his name was called.
"All the things I worked for and all the things I prayed about were answered," Jenkins said. "My mom didn't hear anything I said on stage because she was so busy clapping."
Jenkins won the award over Eric Berry of Tennessee and Taylor Mays of USC. Laurinaitis was in attendance as a finalist for the Bednarik Award for top defensive player, but that went to Rey Maualuga of USC.

Big news day, positive and negative

I spoke with Malcolm by phone moments after the ceremony, but Ohio State spokeswoman Shelly Poe just now sent out some additional quotes from Jenkins. Here they are:
?Well, when they announced the award winner, first I was surprised and then a sigh of relief. It?s really nerve-wracking to sit there through the whole show because our award was one of the last ones announced. And those were not just two fantastic players who were the other finalists, but really nice guys as well.
?It?s just an incredible honor, because of guys like Antoine Winfield who have won this award in the past, and also because of Jim Thorpe, who was one of a kind and a pioneer in history. I work every day to improve as a player and when I came back for my senior season, the chance to be a part of an award like this was one of the dreams I had. Thanks to my coaches and teammates, I have been blessed to get that opportunity. I take pride in my work as a football player and this is truly an honor.
?This whole award trip has been an excellent experience, to visit with so many of the other great players and to be able to share this with my parents and my high school coach who came down to be with me. And thanks to everybody who is trying to congratulate me ? I got so many texts on my phone during the show that I had to start deleting pictures and stuff so I would have room for the texts.?

Damn, UT Vol fans are such crybabies. All I am hearing down here is about how Eric Berry should have won, blah, blah, this is Charles Woodson beating out Peyton for the Heisman all over again, blah, blah.
Wah, F*ing, Wah!:tibor:

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=7&f=1372&t=3587853 You have to read some of this stuff off the Vol site, you would think that they had a horrible season and are now grasping for anything that they can get ie. individual player awards that they don't deserve.............wait a second.

Congrats Malcolm, you deserve it.

Scout.com: Malcolm Jenkins stats for 2008, look at your own risk! Yeah I'll second that. This morning driving into work here in knoxville, the local sports radio station and callers were just basically just calling this another case of "Ohio State bias and love-fest with the media." At least one of the radio hosts here is from Ohio and an Ohio State fan.....he was doing his best to support Malcolm.

:osu: Way to go MJ!!!! :osu:

I am glad that someone else shares my pain.
:slappy:Media bias for Ohio State. That is freaking hilarious! Let's be honest here even if the UT Vol homers can't be. If you are not an Ohio State FAN then most likely you are an Ohio State hater. If anything, there is a huge media bias against Ohio State.

On another note, myself and few friends were discussing Peyton Manning and the incident where he "mooned" the trainer aka he sat on the trainers face while she was tending to an injury because he thought it would be funny. The lady sued and in her testimony talked about the details of where his anatomy was on her, etc. I was thinking to myself the whole time, " I bet all of these Vol fans are saying 'Wow, that trainer is so lucky, I wish Peyton Manning would sit on my face." Vol fans are such homers. Here is a link to the article discussing the incident http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/colts/2003-11-04-manning-suit_x.htm

Malcolm's stats might not be as good as Berry's but there weren't too many teams throwing at Malcolm this year.

I'm paraphrasing but this is pretty much what one of the guy's said....

"The voters looked down the list and didn't see an Ohio State player on the awards list. They (voters) didn't know what to do. With Beanie missing 3 games and no Ohio State player winning an award they had to give the Thorpe to an OSU player."

I've got a feeling some of this VolNation whining will get peeled off - till then, I offer the most delusional one I have thus far seen:

EB finished one short of the lead in the country in INT's, is probably the most ferocious hitter in the nation, and is [sic] a bowl game he won't get short of setting the ALL TIME NCAA return yards stat. ALL TIME. After TWO seasons. I'm sorry, but "they don't throw at Malcom" doesn't trump that.
FANTASYLAND

Delusional part one - that fan evidently thinks UT is going to a Bowl game on a 5-7 record. :tongue2:

Delusion part two, timing is everything and life isn't fair - while UT fans are rightly proud of Berry's on-field accomplishments he is now just a Sophomore. The number of Thorpe winners who were underclassmen? (0) Barring injury, arrest (it's still UT folks) or other early departure Berry will get his share of awards - and it should begin next year.

Delusion part 3 - believe what you read, but understand it does not tell the whole story. As stats seem to be what those Vol fans are leaning on let us remember, sometimes it's the stats you don't see. Like how few the number of occasions on which a QB tossed the rock anywhere close to Jenkins Zipcode. Also, it is worth mentioning that Berry's natural position is as a Safety, Jenkins is out on an Island as a shutdown corner.

Delusion part 4 - it's all because tOSU is cozy with ESPN - one set of numbers refutes that completely, 2004; one commentator refutes that weekly, Mark Mays.

Now back to our regularly scheduled Malcolm Jenkins lovefest - :osu:

So Awesome. With the way that Jenkins has played light out all season, it would have been a crying shame to see the award go to anybody else.

Congrats Malcolm! Great player, great season, absolutely one of the best to play the position at tOSU, which is saying a hell of a lot.
