DB Malcolm Jenkins (All B1G, All-American, Thorpe Award, All-Pro, 2x Super Bowl Champion)

Did you all hear Jenkins' answer today when asked if he would return for his senior year?

And I qoute: "I love Ohio State...I will be here a while."

I would have prefered a date with that quote, but I can live with this! I hope "a while" means 14 months and not 2 months.

:oh:

I'd be very surprised to see M.J. stick around for his senior season. The guy is going to be a stud in the NFL.

i.e. Greg Oden

Oden clearly made the right choice, if as is suspected his injury was inevitable.

But having heard so many interviews with so many NFL players over the years, the theme that I recall coming up most often has nothing to do with money. You never hear them say that they wish they could've earned another million here or there. You will often hear them say that College was the best time of their lives.

It is entirely possible that Malcolm is having the best years of his life right now. It is also possible that he is one of the few who are mature enough to realize it while it's happening. Further, it is possible that he is one of the very few who are mature enough to realize that his time at Ohio State may one day be worth more to him than any amount of money. He might even be among the precious few who hold that standard of value now, while he is still here.

Just because he might make a lot of money for an extra year doesn't mean it's a mistake not to leave. He might know what he's doing a whole lot better than we realize.

There is more to it then that, football is a game, a game in which any play can be your last. One play an it can be over. Tressel knows this, and will tell him that, Malcolm is a top 15 pick, Thats a ton of money, money that he may not get a chance to make if he gets hit hard next year.

Fortunately, I think our secondary is going to be pretty solid next year, with Russel, Coleman, Chekwa and Washington all coming back.

...now that I think about it, our whole D should be pretty solid next year even if 2, 33 and 50 all leave.

If they all come back (which I'm definitely not counting on), I'm not sure anyone will be scoring any points against the defense.

All the Juniors should go. How many people would walk away from millions and set for life vs an injury and not getting it. NFL is not guaranteed money. I considered Gonzo as one of the smartest players to every put on the scarlet and gray and very loyal to the Buckeyes. We know his decision. We are fortunate and blessed with talent and someone will bring it to an even higher level just like Malcolm did. I just hope Malcolm and 33 and 50 go out with the seniors on a positive note and another pair of gold pants. Go Bucks.

Not everyone's life revolves around money. Some actually enjoy and value the college life more than the millions they'll earn later.

FWIW, I spoke to a former player last week who said that MJ is serious about coming back for his Sr. year. Said he (MJ) said he just loves it here and is in no particular hurry to get to the next level.

As noted above, things change when you're told "You're a top 10 pick" but it's not unheard of that a guy comes back... Mike Doss?

You are right there is a value to the college life and being a grad of OSU and living in the dorms with Eddie/Orlando and Dudley it is a very nice life without as much pressure. If that value is worth more than guaranteed millions of dollars then he should stay and RISK that he will earn the same amount later. MJ has been a stud from day one and if he wants to come back obviously great but pretty sure Tressel who knows and cares for him would advise him even different. That is what makes Tressel different from other coaches and bring in the next MJ who he and MJ have been grooming as well.
