Harlen Jacobs is one of the fastest and most athletic players on the Buckeyes and will compete for time at CB in 2003. Jacobs got to see a little action in 2002 as he registered six tackles. Jacobs came to OSU in 2000 as a sleeper prospect out of Douglass High School in Atlanta as a bit of a surprise addition; he was set to sign with LSU, but OSU offered at the last minute, and he elected to sign with the Buckeyes instead. He is majoring in Human Development and Family Science. (Photo copyright Getty Images)

Bio
Harlen Jacobs is entering his third year as the defensive backs coach with the Panthers and his fifth year as a collegiate football coach.

In 2010, Jacobs helped guide the Panthers in their first season of GLIAC competition, with Jason McCurdy earning all-conference accolades after ranking as one of the league leaders in interceptions with four. The 2011 secondary duo of Justin Bell and Eisen Hardy also picked up All-GLIAC awards as they both finished with a team-high 93 tackles.

Jacobs got his start in college coaching as a member of the Fort Scott Community College staff, where he spent one year as the secondary and special teams coach. After his year with FSCC, Jacobs accepted a coaching position at nearby Capital University where he coached the secondary and special teams for the Crusaders. During his time at Capital, Jacobs was able to coach an All-OAC and All-Region defensive back as well as gain a solid grasp of coaching at the NCAA level.

Jacobs was a two-sport athlete at The Ohio State University, where he earned four-varsity letters as a defensive back on the Buckeye?s football team, and was a two-year letterwinner in track and field. In 2002, Jacobs was an integral part of the Big Ten Championship football squad and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Championship.

After his playing days as a Buckeye, ended he joined the Canton Legends of the American Indoor Football League where he continued his winning ways as a member of the 2006 AIFL Champions. Jacobs was also named to the AIFL First Team All-Conference before retiring as a player.

Jacobs received his bachelor?s in Human Development and Family Science from The Ohio State University in 2005.
