Darrell Hazell (official thread)

2. Coach Hazell received this honor after being on Staff for just one year. This speaks volumes about his abilities. JT is a very good developer of Coaches. This in my opinion, is one of the greatest honors Coach Tressel could give someone on his Staff.

i have seen a few practices and i like him a lot, high energy, positive guy...

HH, I certainly noticed the promotion, but I wasn't aware of how few black assistant head coaches there are. I know the head coach total was only 4 sometime last year. Gotta believe that Coach Hazell will raise that total by 1 someday, but let's hope that's after a few highly successful seasons in his current job. It's impressive that he got that promotion after only 1 year on the staff here.

4. Although IMO, he got off to a slow start in FL., (and it does take a while to figure out how JT works), he always treated kids with respect and honesty.

Not sure if you're referring to JT or another coach here, but JT has been recruiting in Florida for almost 20 years...he had anywhere from 5-10 Fla players on YSU rosters year in and year out.

Great post HH. Now that you bring it up, I believe I do remember reading that Hazell was promoted to AHC.

I think an important factor with this also includes everyone's worry that Hazell might move on very soon to another coaching position.

I think this is a smart move to help try to keep a great coach on staff.

I remember reading a post about this right after it was announced. The member posting said that JT wanted to ensure that he would be on the staff for at least a couple more years. JT recognized how good he is and did not want to lose Hazzell as quickly as the other fine coaches that have moved on.

I was not aware of the african-american coaching stat though. Great informative post!

Good post! Many big fb programs have just gone through HC replacements. Hopefully, we can retain our new AHC for 2 to 3 years. Ya never know about those behind-the-scenes agreements/understandings.

Coach Hazell looks like a prime candidate for the next level.

Go Bucks!

Thanks HH!

I feel that Hazell is just being groomed to become the future DC. Heacock has the job the next couple of years, then when Heacock wants to retire, Hazell becomes the new DC. I am really excited to see the progression of Hazell, and to see if my scenario does indeed work out.
