jimotis4hesiman: "sloopy what do you think of the moves in the pen?"
I like the moves under the assertion that (to me, anyway) there was nowhere to go but up.
1. The ONLY guy who could've been a difference maker (i.e. Championship/No Championship) for the Yanks on this free agent market was B.J. Ryan. He didn't want to set-up, and Toronto gave him an outrageous deal, so the Yanks couldn't land him.
2. The best set-up man option after the potential Ryan deal fell through was Kyle Farnsworth. I'm not a huge fan of Kyle: he has a rep for a weak stomach, and has been spotty in the postseason (both recipes for disaster in NY). But, I'd rather give him a chance on the assumption that he's the evil I don't know (with upside) rather than the evil I do (Gordon ain't getting better & he can't pitch in Oct.).
3. Mike Myers, ok - the Yanks needed a match-up lefty, but a two year deal?? Makes no sense to me. They were desperate for someone in this mold, but I prefer a tall, swooping delivery lefty (a la Graeme Lloyd) lefty to a submarine lefty for this spot. But beggars can't be choosers - Myers is ok. If he gets Ortiz out in a big spot, he's okay by me.
4. Octavio Dotel - ABSOLUTELY ECSTATIC OVER THIS DEAL! This was my Yankee highlight of yesterday (sorry, Johnny). Dotel will come back sometime between April and June, and could pay huge, huge dividends for the Yanks. If he can return to form, its Dotel-Farnsworth-the Great One in the 7th-8th-9th. Wicked.
Buckeye513: "I'll be willing to vbet that Boston will still outscore the Yankees next year, as well as give up less runs."
Everytime a Red Sox fan speaks, it should be followed with, 'Yadda, yadda, yadda .." This is the 88th year in a row that a Boston fan has predicted this, and from my count its Yankees: 26, Sux: 1 - and how you tripped and fell over that 1, I'll never know.
tsteele316: "$13 million per for 4 years? apparently the yanks didn't lose enough money last year for them to catch on."
Dude, the Yanks didn't lose any money last year, no matter what hogwash the Daily News reports. The team PRINTS money, trust me. Its a team with a Net Worth in excess of a billion dollars, a major NY network in its pocket, and a name that's essentially priceless (like Coca Cola).
