Damar Hamlin (DB Buffalo Bills)

commotio cordis. Very rare. But hit correctly, V-fib happens. Usually in teenagers with baseball or lacrosse. Hopefully the medical personal were right there. He's at an amazing facility in Cinci. Come on Damar. We got you!

I can speak to the lacrosse thing. Our sport lost one at Cornell back in the late 80s… in the last year they have created a new chest protector — now mandatory equipment at all levels — that has a hard breast plate. The plate distributes energy from impact and spreads it across the entire chest protector. It’s a pretty brilliant design, albeit 30-years after the Cornell player was lost. Better late than never.

It did occur to me that the design would be suitable for football pads when it first came out. I hope, for all the kids, they take a look at the design to see if they can make something similar work.
