Dallas Morning New has OSU ranked #2

Could they even call that the Cotton bowl? I am assuming that you are referring to Jerry World
I was referring to the Bowl itself, which I guess is the SBC Cotton Bowl now. It's tied to the Big-12 through 1/1/2010, but I know the Metroplex folks were hoping to get into the BCS rotation after the Cowboys have their new stadium.

I think the Cotton Bowl deserves a spot in the NC rotation. Until a few years ago it was basically on the same level as the Orange and Sugar, but somehow the Fiesta Bowl snookered the 4th BCS spot.

Of course, I'm not going to say anything bad about the Fiesta Bowl and the BCS.

Yeah, The reason that the fiesta bowl snuck in there was that, physically, the cotton bowl is a peice of shit.

Both Dallas(DFW) and Houston are going to be trying to get a spot in the NC rotation. I have no clue what the bowl in Houston would be but Reliant is a great stadium

I don't mind if the Cotton Bowl moves to the new stadium, but I have a problem with moving the TX-ou game to the new stadium. One of the best things about the TX-ou matchup is that it takes place in the middle of the damn state fair, and that state fair is full of local texans who make the OU visitors look and feel like they have class. It's one of the most fun atmospheres, for drunken youths especially.

Additionally, the DMN has a fantastic sports section and covers national sports very well, and I generally respect their opinion. I wouldn't have much problem with that as a final rankings, but I would of course rather see the Horns go to the Rose Bowl this year, and I think that either team that comes out of Columbus on the 10th has a stronghold on that rose bowl spot that can only be lost if they lose. but Can this really be the year of a third straigth AP NC for USC?? They surely have to lose again? All that being said, I do think that the Rose Bowl having a Big Ten/Pac 10 matchup for the NC would be very exciting.

The way Texas fans seem to regard Mack and the team reminds me of how everyone, during my time in Columbus, regarded the Bucks and Coop. My in-laws are all still like that and it's very annoying.

Last year after the NC State game I was in town for a wedding and my wife's aunt said we'd be lucky to win another game. I went off on her- then we proceeded to lose 3 straight. Boy was she smug, especially after I asked her to relinquish her witchcraft (she did say there was no way we'd come close to beating Michigan).

Update on the RRS and whether it's moving or staying in the Cotton Bowl on the State Fairgrounds. Current agreement only goes through the 2007 game.

Texas, Oklahoma say Cotton Bowl needs upgrade to keep game

DALLAS -- Athletic directors at Texas and Oklahoma want to see some improvements in the Cotton Bowl if the annual Red River rivalry between the two schools is to continue in Dallas.

"I don't think the University of Oklahoma is sitting here saying that we want gold-plated hand rails," Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione said in a story in Wednesday's editions of the Dallas Morning News. "But if you go sit in that stadium and see its condition, you'll see that there has to be some improvements."
The schools took up the issue last week when announcing a new sponsorship agreement with SBC Communications Inc. for the traditional October matchup during the State Fair of Texas.

A clause allows the schools to opt out of their agreement to play at Fair Park in Dallas after the 2007 game. The game has been played there since 1929.

"The decision whether to opt out after the 2007 game would probably need to be made about a year in advance," Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said. "Joe Castiglione and I are having conversations with our staffs about it and trying to decide where Dallas is with our game and what the Cotton Bowl stadium is going to look like in 2008."

Castiglione said, "Turn it around. They want this game in Dallas. What are they offering to us? If the stadium is not in good enough condition to hold the game, what choice do we have? But we would rather not wait until the last year of the contract to make that decision."

State Fair of Texas president Errol McKoy said Tuesday that he sent a $26 million proposal to renovate the Cotton Bowl to Dallas mayor Laura Miller and the City Council a year ago.

Miller said Tuesday that public bonds could fund major Cotton Bowl renovations. She said she was committed to keeping the game in Dallas as well as hosting more games in the stadium.

Miller said in November that city officials would get the money to improve the Cotton Bowl and would seek a longer contractual commitment from Texas and OU.

However, Dodds and Castiglione said Tuesday that they were not aware of a renovation proposal and hadn't heard from the city about extending their contract.

"This is the first I've heard of it," Dodds said. "But it's not our decision to tell Dallas what to do to improve the stadium. It's our decision what to do with the game based on the facts we'll have at the time."

If improvements aren't made to the Cotton Bowl, Dodds has said that he would favor going to a home-and-home series. He said he wouldn't favor the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington because the State Fair is the basis of the game's tradition and the reason for playing it in Dallas.

Having a classic Rose Bowl matchup is one of the reasons I'm so psyched for this season. I watched my DVD of the '69 Rose Bowl last week and would LOVE to see another OSU-USC matchup. It'd be nice to see the Trojans cough up the ball as much as OJ and Co. did back in '69 too.
