Crystal Balls (split from Oden thread)

Seriously Thump, you state that someone must not know how to read and yet you put in quotes "announce tomorrow" yet fail to put the word that preceded it, "could", there as well?!?

And if you read my post, that was included in the quote.

Why is everyone all of a sudden being some optimistic about this? I mean I hope he comes back next year too, but is the optimism based on anything other than ananymous sources?

No. My optimism comes from Oden's own comments earlier in the year when he said he could see himself at Ohio State for four years. He actually likes the college life, is not hurting for money, and has said before that he thinks he still needs to improve and that he isn't ready for the NBA.

Try post 1755 before you comment.

I did see that post. What you need to do is check the post where you question one's ability to read and in that post you did not, did not, include the "could". Somewhat ironic that you take golfer to task for using the word "could" yet in a post questioning one's ability to read you do not include that word.

Tell me, what was Golfer's main reason for his initial post, wanting to be the first to tell us that Oden was announcing his decision to stay in school the following day. He was questioned by Hoopsfan and continued to say he had a solid source all while using vague words like "Could" and "may" while hinting that he was pretty sure it was happening.

My main problem is that we know Hoopsfan's connections to Greg, Golfer we don't, so I'm more than willing to be skeptical of someone who we have no idea of a connection to OSU's basketball team or players when coming out and making such a statement.

Haven't we covered in every recruiting thread that when dealing with 18-19 year old kids, "could", "may", "might" and "possible" are about as good as it gets?

So then why come on here and make that statement?

Monkeys "could" fly out of my butt tomorrow but who knows.

Um, maybe he was passing along good news, not participating in a juvenile competition over who was right/wrong/first. Even if that were his intention, you beating this subject to death only continues the focus on the competition, rather than on Greg, where it belongs.

Did you miss the part where hoopsfan challenged him, and golfer admitted his source was not as direct and could be wrong?

If you knew who the source was then you might think otherwise, but saying any more could possibly impact current/future recruits so I'm being intentionally vague. The source did not hear anything from Greg himself, so I'm not 100% either. I just have a much better feeling after hearing it.

It's possible it won't happen tomorrow, and I'm not counting on it. Again, I'm just stating what I was told.

Yes we know Hoopsfan's connection to GO and I think that most would assume that connection is better than Golfer's connection. I did not read Golfer's post as saying GO "was announcing" but as "could be announcing". Then when Hoopsfan weighed in on the issue, it somewhat solidified the usage of "could". Honestly, when I read Golfer's post I thought, "Hmmm. GO might make an announcement?!". Then when I read Hoopsfan's post, I thought, "Hmmm. Seriously doubt that GO will be making an announcement." And for me that was that.

While I think that a fair number here that know Hoopsfan's connection might have similar thoughts to what I indicated above, like me, most didn't take it upon themselves to call out Golfer and bust his balls. You did, which is fine. It appeared that you wanted to give Golfer some grief, which is fine. Now my main point of even posting was to give you a little grief for chastising someone's ability to read in a post where you left off the, what is now infamous, "could" hence the irony.
