I never heard of it in HS until I came south...but every school in SC does it for 10 days in helmets and shoulder pads. Its only "semi-contact" but incidental hitting is allowed. We play our Spring Game a week from saturday...
That would be today... update, please. :)

This is always the worst day of coaching...seniors you have coached since their 7th grade JV season are officially gone. Kids I have helped to mold as players and young men are leaving.

Great post and this should be your best day coaching. When the kids you have had more of an impact on then you will ever know are heading out on their own. They will take the lessons they have learned at home, school, working, hanging out with friends, and on the field of play and it will all add up to make them better people. Before you know it they will return as adults and continue to help others. Congrats for not passing on a chance to pay forward.

The game was postponed until Wednesday due to a rain out on the third day that landed us in the gym....

So instead of losing a day of practice, we will practice on Monday and play the game on Wednesday evening.

Had a variation of the jersey scrimmage yesterday and drafted players last night...should be a blast.

How are your kids doing?
Well its been very trying for me personally as we installed a new base defense (changed shade 4-3 to the multiface 3-5). Its hard to break old habits/tendencies and very hard to remember this is brand new to the kids. We run a split staff so I'm working this defense the whole practice.

However, the "ones" are starting to look good....we just need to develop the depth now.

Been an interesting spring as we have had at least 2 d1 coaches in attendance every day to look a few of the boys...we've had them before, but never this many.

Good luck to the players in the schollie hunt... they must have some darn good coaches.

Mmm... gotta find my football dictionary... "4-3" I get but the rest is Greek. :ohwell:

I know, I know....anyway, it was a great game. The young kids we had on JV put on a show, the two d-1 OL dominated on both sides of the ball of course, and I witnessed one of the sweetest ankle breaking moves to ever take place on a football field.

Going into the 4th qtr, my team (white) was losing to the Blue team 12-13. We have a first year kicker who was struggling in front of the crowd. Anyway, we suddenly started playing some major defense, hit two big plays and had one nice long, time-consuming drive to end the game at 34-13.

Great start to the summer season...

Good deal. Nice to finish strong...
