Police in L.A. Report Two More Shootings

LOS ANGELES - Authorities said two men were wounded in separate freeway shootings over the weekend, the latest in a spate of highway gunfire in Southern California in recent weeks that has killed four.

In the first weekend incident, a 16-year-old driver was shot three times by someone who pulled alongside the victim's car on Interstate 5 early Saturday. The victim was able to drive himself to a hospital; his condition was not immediately known. His passenger was not injured.

Authorities said events leading up to the shooting indicate it may have been motivated by road rage.

In the other incident, police said a 19-year-old man was shot three times early Sunday while driving on Interstate 405, but managed to pull off the freeway and flag down a firefighter. He was in stable condition at a hospital.

Authorities are also investigating whether shots were fired at another motorist early Sunday. No one was injured in the incident.

In the past five weeks, two men have been killed in separate incidents in Los Angeles while traveling on Interstate 110. Two others were shot and killed on freeways in neighboring counties. The shootings are not believed to be connected, police said.

Authorities have increased freeway patrols and considered installing recorders on roadside traffic cameras.

So far this year, there have been 11 freeway-related shootings in Los Angeles, police said. In 2004, there were 36 shootings, with one fatality. In 2003, there were 46 incidents and four fatalities.

The roads out there are crazy... motor cycles weaving in and out of traffice on the dotted line (in between cars)... I almost his at least a dozen. We would see guys that did get hit off the side of the road all bloody...

When the side streets are quicker than the highway (aka parking lot) you know you have issues...

If I'm driving with one of my kids in the car and you are driving like a retard and almost cause an accident which could kill my kid, you can bet your ass I am going to take action.

I am not saying these guys deserved to get shot, but the focus should be on the root problem, which is people driving like assholes, like no one else has any rights and without regard for anyone else.

Road rage doesn't happen because of just one incident. It occurs because of an accumulation of near-accidents and inconveniences caused by totally self-centered drivers who have no regard for anyone else on the road.
