About Football’s 2006 NFL Mock Draft order is loosley based on About Football's
Power Rankings.
1. Arizona Cardinals – Matt Leinart, QB USC
Kurt Warner just can’t be counted on to lead a team for an entire season anymore. Unless Josh McCown really impresses Denny Green over the rest of the season, a quarterback may be at the top of his draft list.
2. San Francisco 49ers – Reggie Bush*, RB USC
Kevan Barlow is an adequate back, but Bush’s versatility would be a perfect fit for the 49ers’ offense.
3. Houston Texans - D‘Brickashaw Ferguson, OT Virginia
At some point, if the Texans want David Carr to take the next step, they must stop scraping him off the turf week after week. Ferguson is the best LT in the draft. .
4. Green Bay Packers – Mario Williams*, DE North Carolina State
A consistent pass rush would do wonders for the development of a young secondary.
5. Detroit Lions – Jimmy Williams, CB Virginia Tech
Williams has the ability to shut down his half of the field.
6. Tennessee Titans – Ahmad Brooks*, ILB Virginia
The Titans are in complete rebuilding mode and they need playmakers. Brooks is very athletic and has great instincts.
7. Cleveland Browns - A.J. Hawk, LB Ohio State
Linebackers are key to Crennel‘s defense and Hawk is arguably the best weak-side player in the draft.
8. Minnesota Vikings – Laurence Maroney, RB Minnesota
The Vikings need to settle the running back position. Michael Bennett will probably be gone next year and Onterrio Smith can’t be counted on. Mewelde Moore looks more to me like a Darren Nelson type of back who will be most effective on third downs.
9. New York Jets – Eric Winston, OT Miami (FL)
2004 fourth-round pick Adrian Jones starting on the right side and left tackle Jason Fabini will be 31 before the season starts.
10. Buffalo Bills – Jason Allen, CB/S Tennessee
Terrence McGee is a better fit at nickel, so the Bills might look for a young guy to plug in opposite Nate Clements. Allen could also take over for the 35-year-old Troy Vincent at free safety.
11. Chicago Bears – Marcedes Lewis, TE UCLA
Whether it’s Grossman or Orton in 2006, the Bears have got to get their starting QB some more weapons, and Lewis could really help stretch the middle of the field.
12. St. Louis Rams - Mathias Kiwanuka, DE Boston College
2004 third-round draft pick Tony Hargrove came on nicely last year, but Leonard Little will be 31 this year and the team could use another pass rusher in the rotation.
13. New Orleans Saints - Chad Greenway, LB Iowa
The Saints defense needs an athletic outside linebacker who can make impact plays.
14. Oakland Raiders – A.J. Nicholson, LB Florida State
The Raiders need playmakers on defense, and their linebacking corps has some serious concerns.
15. Baltimore Ravens – DeMeco Ryans, LB Alabama
Linebacker isn’t a big need, but Ryans would be very tough to pass on at this point.
16. Miami Dolphins – Omar Jacobs, QB Bowling Green
Frerotte is a solid veteran, but expect Nick Saban to look for his QB of the future.
17. Kansas City Chiefs – Tye Hill, CB Clemson
At this point of his career, Dexter McCleon should not be an every-down player.
18. Seattle Seahawks – DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis
If the Seahawks elect to not re-sign Shaun Alexander, they‘ll be looking for a back early in the draft.
19. Denver Broncos (from Washington) - Santonio Holmes*, WR Ohio State
Ashley Lelie had a nice 2004 season and Darius Watts could develop into an outstanding No. 3 receiver, but Rod Smith is on the downside of his career.
20. Jacksonville Jaguars – Devin Hester*, Miami (FL)
Other than Rashean Mathis, the Jaguars don’t have a guy that should be playing every down at corner.
21. Dallas Cowboys – Davin Joseph, OG Oklahoma
Joseph is an aggressive run blocker with a mean streak.
22.Denver Broncos – Gabe Watson, DT Michigan
The Broncos are adequate at defensive tackle, but Watson, who is a big run-stuffing tackle, would be an improvement.
23. New York Giants – Darrell Hunter, CB Miami (Ohio)
Hunter is an aggressive player with good size and agility.
24. New England Patriots - Abdul Hodge, ILB Iowa
Even if Tedy Bruschi makes a return, he is nearing the end of his career.
25. Carolina Panthers – Thomas Howard, OLB UTEP
Howard would bring great speed and athleticism to the outside of the Panthers’ defense.
26. San Diego Chargers – Chad Jackson*, WR Florida
The Chargers lack a true No. 1 receiver and Keenan McCardell is 35-years old.
27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Max Jean-Gilles, Georgia
The Bucs should look to solidify the offensive line early in the draft.
28. Cincinnati Bengals – Rodrique Wright, DT
Bryan Robinson was an improvement at defensive tackle, but that’s not saying much. He’s average at best, and the Bengals would benefit from an infusion of young talent.
29. Atlanta Falcons - Marcus McNeill, OT Auburn
McNeill is a massive lineman with outstanding athletic ability.
30. Pittsburgh Steelers - Nick Mangold, C Ohio State
Jeff Hartings will be 34 in 2006, so the Steelers should start grooming his replacement.
31. Philadelphia Eagles – Derek Hagan, WR Arizona State
Hagan isn’t a huge deep threat, but he has the ability to make a quick transition to the NFL, and could probably earn a starting job during his rookie season.
32. Indianapolis Colts – D‘Qwell Jackson, LB Maryland
Jackson played in the middle at Maryland, but may be moved to the outside in the NFL.

This draft is close to perfect except Santonio can't go to Denver. Check out Mangold in the First round.
