Couple Buckeye Occurrences Last Week

Just wanted to share a couple events that occurred last week that I thought a few people would get a kick out of.

1) Las Vegas.
I was in Vegas for a trade show and to visit a customer. On Tuesday, we had to stay over one more night. So my boss and I go to the Mesa bar and grill in Caesars, and then headed to Napoleon's in The Paris. For those who may or may not know, Napoleon's has dueling piano players from 9P-2A. I stepped out to call my wife at 11P. When I came back in, the piano players were playing Hang On Sloopy, and half of the crowd was doing the O-H-I-O during the pauses. I jumped right in, and enjoyed the last half of the song.
After the song ended, I went up to a couple of the people, and pronounced myself as a fellow Buckeye. I asked if all the people that were singing were Buckeyes, and the lady I was speaking with said that they were all there for a Wendy's convention. There were 3000 representatives and franchisees in Vegas for this convention. I proceeded to ask her if Wendy's sold out to Arby's last year, and she told me it had. She then pointed me in the direction of the CEO of Arby's/Wendy's. I sat down for a couple minutes, and then I figured "what the hell".
I walked around from exit to exit, and came up to the CEO. I tapped him on the shoulder, and struck up a very short conversation with him. He confirmed that he was the CEO. He lives half of the year in Columbus, and the other half in Georgia. I thanked him for his time, and told him that Wendy's makes a great burger.
Yes, I had been drinking, but I wasn't drunk.

2) The family and I went grocery shopping at our local Wal-Mart this past Friday. As we're rounding the corner, I notice the family in front of me has a rather large father all decked out in tOSU gear, and the older son has a leather tOSU Block O jacket on. He's early teens. I holler at them to get their attention, and the father continues to strike up a conversation with me that lasts about 10 minutes. I noticed during this that my wife stayed by my side whereas the other guys wife drifted on down the aisle. She gave the impression like... "once he gets going, he just never stops". Anyway... found out that he was a student at tOSU back in the late 80s. He grew up in Springfield while his wife is an Oregonian. It was really interesting to talk with the guy, because the entire experience gave my wife a new perspective. She knows that I love my Buckeyes. She knows how much I enjoy the games, and how much time I spend on this forum. But she never saw me with the Chris Farley like enthusiasm that this dude displayed. He was about ready to bust out of his jersey when he started talking about how much he wants the offense to start performing. Fat man in a little suit is all that came to mind.

So, there you have it. Two Buckeye experiences for someone living on the Left Coast.

You lost me after this whopper. :tongue2:

Don't get me wrong, I was WELL on my way. But I'm not about to make an ass out of myself to the CEO of Arby's/Wendy's. I was lucid, and completely cognizant.

It was 3 margaritas, 4 jagermeister shots, and a cigar later that I couldn't walk from The Paris to the Flamingo. Priscilla Porcelain was a cold, yet nurturing friend that night. Whew! Thank G-d two friends helped carry me back to the hotel. The irony was that they were the ones who kept serving.

11/10/2009 Encounter

Tonight, I went to the local "health" food store to pick up some vitamin supplements and frozen snacks.

As I was evaluating what brand of supplement I wanted, the associate came up to ask if I needed any assistance. I told him what I was looking for. He then commented that he was a brother in the same fraternity (DTD) as I was wearing a t-shirt from back in the day. He attended DePauw and graduated in 1994. Come to find out that the poor soul grew up in Beverly Hills, MI. It was at this point that I told him that even though I went to school at Eastern Michigan, I was a Buckeye. He surprised me by saying that he was as well. The back story is even more fascinating. His father was a coach at Wayne State with Dick Tressel back in the 70s. Ever since then the families have kept friendly ties, and they are Buckeye fans through and through. He lives out here in Oregon, but his parents still reside in that [censored]hole up north.

Thought that was a pretty wicked encounter.
