We're up to something like 3 major conventions/shows cancelled down here, with something like a net negative impact of over 100k visitors just for those three events. This is going to one hell of roller coaster for the economy across all sectors. Quite frankly, I'm just assuming I've either already come in contact with this bug or will very soon. There's no way we don't have cases here in my immediate area.
Yep... there are a lot of service workers in Austin impacted by the cancelations of SXSW. There are a number of fund raisers going on for those folks. It sucks but there wasn’t much of a choice. I think SXSW had something like a 300 to 500 M direct impact and up over $1B in indirect impact...

Trying to make sense of Covid- 19 is difficult when our government has not provided enough testing to healthcare people. But what is clear is it is much more contagious and that alone warrants some common sense "social distancing" and extra precautions like more hand cleaning and staying home if you are sick. We have avoided one local favorite restaurant that is frequently packed and wash our hands frequently and this bye itself has prevented us from even getting a single cold or the flu this season. Avoid hand contact to your face if possible.

"But the official numbers do not capture the full scope of the contagion. The actual number of deaths from the virus might be somewhat higher, in part because of undercounting or misdiagnosis. There is little doubt that the number of infections — in many cases among people who either did not get sick or thought they had only a mild illness — is larger than the official case count. The infection rate will not be known until researchers do broad surveys to see who has developed antibodies to the virus".

My wife works for UPenn hospital. They have one.

70+ year old MD who was in bad health before he got it.

I've been trying to buy a Twitter machine so I can add the the hysteria in the hopes that maybe they'll quarantine the old lady for a few weeks.

No luck so far. Will keep you posted.

P.S. We're all going to die (from this)

You want her around all day for a few weeks? Thought you'd been married longer than that ...

EDIT: My bad. Should have tracked the original post better.
