Myles Standish, John Alden, Priscilla Mullins

They were all part of a Mayflower love triangle detailed in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's "Courtship of Miles Standish", and a couple generations later their families were connected by marriage. Miles Standish was the military captain of the Pilgrims at Plymouth and just a general badass by most accounts.

Hey, I had relatives come over on the Mayflower, also! Of course, in their case, it was a moving van.

My great-etc. grandfather is said to have been an elected king of Poland who gave protection to Jews who were having problems with Russians. By keeping Russia out of Poland at that point, he set the stage for unrest when the country later became part of the Soviet Union, causing it to be the first to break away and ultimately end the Cold War. So, you're welcome.

I suppose if you go back far enough I'm descended from Abraham, who fortunately for me did not end up whacking his son Issac. :wink2:

Otherwise I know of no famous ancestors.

EDIT: Thank you to Deety's ancestor, who might have helped some of my nondescript Eastern Euro-trash ancestors out.

I'm related to Davy Crockett on my mother's side.

Without looking more closely at what exact markers they're looking at, I'd tend to side with the scientist who thought that "Genghis Khan had this marker, but Joe Smith in the Genghis Khan army also had this Y chromosome.".

According to what I (without checking sources) looked up, wives were chosen by a boy's parents before puberty. So, I'd assume there was a fair amount of intermarriage among a tribe, as the wife would have to be known by the boy's family. That would likely lead to specific non-harmful genetic codes being overrepresented in that population as compared to the world's population.

Alas, my ancestors were either aliens or , according to some, the Devil! :tongue2:

I do have a friend, Janet Bradford, who is a direct decedent to William Bradford. He of Plymouth colony, fame.

Bradford was one of the leaders of the English Puritan Separatists who we now call "The Pilgrims." This history was his personal journal, completed around 1650, after he had served some 35 years as governor of the colony.
