considering buying a new radio

I dont really see how they have an advantage.

XM has NHL, MLB, Nascar (which i heard might be leaving) NCAA - (a station for each of the big conferences), the only thing they do not have is NFL.
Nascar has been gone. sirius has better all around programming, some music stations on XM even have commercials now. sirius has been kicking XM's ass for a couple years now, some of that is Stern and some is sirius's superior channels. Basically XM sucks.

well Nascar races might not be on XM but they still have nascar channels.

I dont listen to the music or the sports stations very often(only when o&a are suspended), my xm is set to 202 and rarely changes.

202 is "The Virus" it is the Opie and Anthony channel. I love listening to those guys and all the comedians they always bring into the studio.

Siruis also has the NBA, and contrary to what has been posted on here, it also has a significant amount of college football and basketball.

I think the music stations are better on Sirius, but if you're getting it for sports, you're probably better off going with the one that has your team/sport. Like I said before, Sirius is great for me because I can catch Browns games (and Cavs games too, though getting them on TV is not nearly as tough here.) I imagine if I lived in Cleveland though I'd have the same problem trying to get Reds games and would be very inclined to get XM instead of Sirius.

There is also an all NASCAR channel on Sirius, 128 I believe.

Plus you can listen to the in-car conversations of 10 drivers and their pit crews if that's your cup of tea.

When XM and Sirius merge, it won't matter.

BTW jo, if you want it solely for hockey, you should go with XM.

Here's the Sirius Channel Guide: SIRIUS Satellite Radio - Sirius Satellite Radio Channel Guide, Sirius Radio Channel Guide, Sirius Radio Station Guide

The thing with Sirius is they have contracts with Ohio State to play there sports while XM has the Big Ten so they do things like play games of the week etc. Someone else mentioned the rivals show which is great. Another guy who I love is Scott Ferrell who is on Howard 101 at night they talk sports all night.

Also if you are an NFL fan, not only do they carry every game, but thet actually carry every game twice, because they have the local broadcast for each team. What they do is take allot of the talk channels and stuff and turn them into football ones on Sundays. One of the funniest things was that they had the superbowl on in 9 different lanuages this past year.

its been brought to my attention that i dinged all/most of you rather than repping you for your advice/help. this will be corrected. trust me!!

i will fix it once 24 hours is up and i will rep each of you again and then make up for it sorry.

Can I get the official ruling on whether this constitutes ding-whining?

when you say so superior its laughable how so?

obviously i want the hockey on xm. sirius has a canadian radio station for sports (assuming they talk lots of hockey). on the nfl im neutral i dont have a team, sure it would be nice to have every game and the ticker but i wouldnt use it that often. so usage would be college bball, fball music hockey and guys sitting around with mullets talking hockey. i guess thats why my first inclination is to go with xm, i want guys in mullets talking about hockey not some schmuck like bruce hooley...

From IAB's post I was just talking specifically about their technology. When you compare the offerings of the two, it's a joke.

Something else I forgot to add about my Sirius radio. Crap - I can't remember what model I have. But it was one of the cheaper models, so most probably have it. And I'd be surprised if XM doesn't have this feature: You can pause the radio. All that you listen to gets saved, until you change the channel. It can save up to about 45 minutes of music or 90 minutes of talk radio. If you pause it, it'll save that time. Then, you come to a song you don't like, and rather than look for another station, just hit fast-forward once, and it goes to the next song saved. And so on.

yeah XM has always been touted has having the better technology and Sirius has always been touted has having a better programming. - well except that XM has O & A :)

that because XM used all their money on technology and sirius used it on programming. obviously neither way was the best as both are loosing money and thats why they want to merge.
