Dang, got the groundball, went home with the throw but it got away. 4-3, 2nd and 3rd 1 out. Should have taken the out at 2 and possible the double play. Not a good inning for the Buckeye D.

Reeder was scuffling in her time out there. Managed to strand 8 runners through the first 4 innings, but UGA really turned it on there in the 5th, helped by some shoddy defense from the Bucks. I thought Pruner's home run was a bomb, but Goler's 2nd was way the hell out there, too.

Sweeping the DH today is a daunting task. The UGA offense is loaded.

Are there any coaches or players out there who can tell me why the players (on both teams) like to fake bunt and then swing away?

I was watching the game last night and wanted to yell - "just hit the damn thing"

Same reason you do it in Baseball... move the corners in to give yourself a gap behind them. The softball field is about 30 feet shorter than a baseball infield, and getting a player out of position can be key. In baseball, a SS can bobble the ball and still make the play a lot of the time.. bobble it in softball, you're done.

Thus, moving players out of where they "want" to be is more important.

Thank you very much for this insight. It seemed like this was the plan. At first I thought - ok, maybe this is the play for faster players (SEC!) but then players at the bottom of the order were doing it, players were doing it with nobody on base...etc

It seems like its much more difficult than in baseball. It places a premium on location. In baseball - you can get one down and unless its right back to the pitcher, the runner is moving over. In softball - with a tighter field, you could really screw yourself with a bad bunt.

Two talented softball teams there. Too bad someone had to lose. Well done ladies, get them next year.... The thirdbaseperson for UGA is unbelievable. What a softball complex as well, I was impressed.
