Bleed S & G

Taking Crazy Pills
Before I start - I've searched and searched the last 15 hours trying to find a solution.. there are others with this issue but no answers..

  1. ASUS P7P55D Motherboard
  2. i5 Quad-Core
  3. On my 3rd power supply, now a 1000 Watt Coolmax
  4. Nvidia GT 220 Graphic Card (NO power required to the card)
  5. 4 gigs of RAM, DDR3
  6. I've switched cards - using some old ass card I found laying around
The 24 pin and 8 pin power plugs are plugged into the motherboard.

There is no on-board video, and I can't get video from either video card mentioned above. I've switched RAM, I've cleared CMOS by removing the battery, I've switched video cards, switched power supplies..

The computer starts up, no beeps, fans spin, hard drive turns... no video.

Any help? This is killing me.....

No sound? Are you sure the board is good? If you are not getting any error response that's bad, beeps usually mean that it's a problem with one of the cards or memory, no beeps mean the system processor isn't alive enough to tell you something is wrong.

Let me pull the RAM and see if I get a beep..

RAM is pulled.. no beep.. fuck.

It's an Intel i5 750.. being pushed by a 1000 watt power supply...

I've also noticed, the additonal 8 pin power plug on the motherboard - when nothing is plugged in and the "cap" (the "cap" is a plastic piece that covers 4 of the 8 pins) is off, the system won't boot.

When the cap is on, it boots but no spin on the video card..

Is there an additonal power plug I'm missing somewhere?

I should have aske if the processor is new or was installed when functioning. When I upgraded my wife's computer from dual to quad, I had the same issue. Had to put the dual back in and upgrade the BIOS and then the quad worked.

Reading through your manual, you need a power supply with the 24 + 8 pin connectors or it "will not boot." There's your problem.

Can't get it to copy, but it's in section 2-38 of the manual. Go here to download:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
Thanks for the help - I too found that issue, thus the 50 power supplies I've been through

I've for the 24 & the 8 pin connected to this thing..

Is it more likely the motherboard is bad or the processor is bad? Could a short cause this?

sorry, must have been looking at a different connector.

In my experience, it is usually the board but I'd return both if not a hassle.

Got it!

It's got video.. no HD connected right now, no optical drive connected.. just 1 stick of RAM, Nvidia Card, and CPU..

I pulled everything out and reset the processor.. this board has an allen-wrench type of screw holding the processor in place.. I tightened it down and heard the sockets hook up..

Time to rebuild this dude and get it up and running!!

Thanks OCB for getting me thinking of the processor - many thanks!
