And if I had to name a program with a similar track record to tOSU, I'd say Oklahoma.

As I already posted, I think tOSU and Nebraska have very similar track records. With the glaring exception of the 4 lost seasons with Callahan, they've been much more consistent over the last 50 years than Oklahoma.

Not wanting to start an argument, just asking - why do you think Oklahoma is a better comparison to tOSU then Nebraska?

Oklahoma and Ohio State have been more consistent over the last 100 years.

They both have 51 appearances in the final AP poll.

Oklahoma has been voted AP #1 97 times, tOSU 94 times.

They rank 1-2 in most top-5 (Oklahoma #1) and top-10 (tOSU #1) appearances all-time (Nebraska is 3rd in both categories).

Despite their dominance, they both trail in their main rivalry series. Ohio State is 44-57-6 in The Game, and Oklahoma is 41-59-5 in the Red River Shootout.

Ohio State is #1 in winning percentage over the last 100 years, with ND second and Oklahoma 3rd. Nebraska is 10th (those numbers exclude upstarts like Boise State).

Going back only 50 years avoids the 9 straight losing seasons that Nebraska had from 1941-49. Ohio State has only had 8 losing seasons in the last 100 years.

I'm not saying tOSU and Oklahoma are the top 2 programs - I'm just saying why I think Oklahoma has the most similar track record to tOSU.

OK, thanks. As I said, not trying to start an argument. If you go back 100 years, then I see your point. I tend to say the leather-helmet, pre-WWII records are a little irrelevant at this point because that really was an entirely different game, but yeah maybe I'm biased, because admittedly Nebraska came to prominence (and has mostly stayed there) when Bob Devaney arrived in 1962. If you pick 50 years as your measurement instead of 100, then the tOSU-Nebraska track records are remarkably similar.

Of course, by going back 100 years, you help to legitimize the mostly-irrelevant-of-late Gold Domers AND also help to legitimize TSUN, which is another pretty good argument for only going back 50 instead of 100.

tOSU (#1) and Oklahoma (#2) are also at the top of the list for the most individual player awards won. Texas is 3rd, and Nebraska 4th. We track that in this thread.
