I often tell people when they ask what my favorite movie is, "I have a handful of movies that I could claim as some of the best ever made... but my favorite movie is Independence Day." it's just such a mindless action romp that hits all the right corny notes. Plot holes aplenty, but the dialogue throughout is quotable and just damn clever. There are a handful of movie monologues that I always quote along with when I watch and this is probably the one I know the best.

I'm excited for this new movie if only to see "David" again. It seems they've centered the story around him, Whitman's daughter and the new action hero play'd by lil' Thor which gives you another "triad of tropes" to deal with along the way. I just hope they don't try and make it more serious than it needs to be. This may be the only movie ever made that I think DESERVES the Michael Bay treatment. Just make it big and goofy and loud and over the top and I'll leave smiling.

Funny. When there isn't shit on TV, Independence Day is one of our go-to movies to put on for background noise while we're fucking around on the internets...LOL.

I agree with @SloopyHangOn. Hope this new one strikes the same tone. Give me the special effects and the cornyness. Alright you alien assholes!!!

Too bad Cousin Eddie died. This would have been a nice reprieve for Randy if he didn't lose his shit.

Over the years, I've actually adopted Will Smith's "welcome to Earth" in certain conversations. Someone can be complaining to me about a circumstance that is pretty much universal among people (like teenage children being difficult to deal with), and my reply is Welcome to Earth.
