Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

Right outcome for me. I won't diss the 2 iffy offside calls in detail but....
That offside call on the Matan goal was horrible. The MLS needs to do a better job of being more transparent on their reviews. The WC, for as annoying as the offside calls that went against us were, they nailed the transparency of showing the fans what part was offside.

Yeah, I mean the WC replays made me change my mind on a couple... the Matan goal was really close, the Shaquiri goal (and going back and looking at it later I think it was ok) but the farthest forward runner was ahead of the play (but ultimately behind the ball when it was played I think) but the dude did make a movement toward the ball when it was crossed and was marked as a result. Now, should they go pick that apart if it was ultimately a good goal, I don't know but, it was very close and the old line across the field to see if he was off when it was played would have been nice, realizing that the rest is subjective (how clearly did he move toward the cross, he certainly cut off his run, turned and moved in the direction of the ball, and the crew defender reacted to that)

Agree with all of this. Would also be nice to have a clear idea of what a handball constitutes in the MLS according to PRO Referees. The Crew got absolutely fucked on two handball calls in the first game of the season that turned that game on its head. They’ve had several similar handballs go uncalled in our favor that were virtually identical to what was called 100% of the time in that first game. I don’t think it’s too much to have some consistency and transparency from an organization that’s used the same referees for over a decade now.
