Worth mentioning this fellow.
Jim Lynch
If he hadn't incurred an unscheduled hiatus in the Hoosier State, as an impressionable youth, there is no telling how far he might have gone. As it is he has had a pretty good career as a journeyman player, session man and integral part of several older Columbus bands.

He remains (I think) the only rock guitarist to have played with TBDBITL

Nice to see that he is still playing after all these years - even if it is largely private events.

This has been a really bad week for folks we know or know of passing on.

Those that may remember the band McGuffey Lane might wish to pay their respects to Dick Smith. He was their original drummer and passed away on August 14th, suddenly, from cardiac arrest.

I have not yet found the funeral arrangements or showing times, so I'd keep your eyes on the Dispatch obituary pages and similar.

I'm not sure how I missed this thread before.

Sad news about the passing.

I don't know too much about local Columbus bands, but a few weeks ago there was a band at Ugly Tuna that played mostly cover songs, but some originals. They kicked ass. They were rock/bluesy. Never heard their name, however.

I played back then and knew Bobby Gene pretty well and the other guys on sight. I just did a Google search and saw how bad their luck had been. Never would have guessed that BG had it in him to shoot his woman and himself. He was a very peaceful guy back in the 70s and not too full of himself, for a "Columbus legend".

His son Rob was the lead guitarist & singer for a Columbus blues band in the early 90's called Rob Wallet.

To this day they are still one of my personal favorites.

Rob has been living in Nashville for a little over a decade doing session work and is currently the guitar player for Delbert McClinton's group.

He's got a couple of solo releases that are worth picking up and that can be found on his website

Rob is a fantastically gifted guitarist.

He got together with McGuffey Lane a few years back for a show in Dayton that kicked all kinds of arse.

Yeah I just got an email from John Schwab about it. :(

Obviously no one can touch Hookah, although the Spikedriver's-Sweeney's side project-are damn good as well. The last time I saw them, a couple of months ago at Canal Street, they busted out some blues jams that were awesome, and completely different from the old timey stuff they usually do-they took it to another level.
Willie Phoenix is pretty cool too.
