Columbus Alive: Top 100 Buckeyes Football Players

DeVille

Newbie
Hey folks, my name is Chris DeVille. I write for the weekly entertainment paper Columbus Alive. We're not primarily a sports publication, but there are plenty of fans around the office and we dabble in sports features from time to time. The latest is a list of the top 100 Buckeyes football players of all time, which I put together with my co-worker John Ross over the past few weeks. I hope you don't mind me showing up here to link you to it. We're releasing 20 picks per day until Thursday, when the paper comes out (it's free around town) and the full list will be revealed.

Here's the link.

Well... let the skewering begin!

Dean Dugger at 87! Any list that has him below 85 is a joke!

I kid, I kid! I'm looking forward to the forthcoming installments.

Spam, Buckeye related or not. Another mod may move this back if they'd like...

It's a free link, and enough of a conversation piece that I think it's probably okay. Hopefully the OP is here to do more than link his work, but let's give this one a pass.

Well I certainly did show up to pimp, but now you've swept me off my feet and I could see myself in a committed relationship...

Kwas:
Re: JL - The tough thing about him is the huge glut of elite linebackers OSU has produced. There are so many to pick from it's insane. Seemed wise to leave James low at least until his full career is through. Still, considering his Butkus Award, you might have a point. How do you rank the LBs?

Historically some people on here wont be thinking back to previous glory years let alone the great players on not so good teams. There are about 16 positions a guy could play. Top 5 all-time at those positions make 90 players. You guys think Wilhelm is top 5 all time at LB'er?

Granted alot of positions wont have many selections such as Center and
Guard. But positions like WR, RB and DB are going to take up about 15 each so this list is pretty hard to put together. Personally I appreciate the effort.

After closer look I think JL and Beanie will end up much higher. This list just goes to show how far the Buckeye legend has traveled. Those pics bring back some memories for me and some that I wish I knew more about.

I think Clarett belongs on the list, but nowhere near that high. He should be on the list simply because I think he was a key piece of that championship team. If we had him in the 2003 season, we'd probably have another national title.

What a shame for him to end up like he did. We will all wonder what went on in his mind between the Michigan game and leading up to the Fiesta Bowl in Tempe. None of us will ever know. Sad.

Art 10 Fan

Art Schlichter rated behind Maurice Clarett is crazy. Art not only had a great career; he also played much longer. Mo was a one hit wonder. Art and most of the 75 others rated behind him accomplished much more for OSU than Clarett.
