I decided this deserved its own thread, but wasn't sure if this would be the best forum, so if it needs to be moved, please feel free to move it mods.

Anyways, the Scarborough Sports Marketing group surveyed over 220,000 adults in 81 top-tier markets of the U.S. to determine the sports interest of each city. The survey measured all sports including, professional leagues, motor sports, college sports, minor leagues, the Olympics and more. The data was based off of whether or not the people within the city watched on TV, listened on the radio, or attended a game of the main sports teams located in their city within the past year.

After the survey was completed it was determined that Columbus, Ohio is the #1 sports town in the U.S. due to the fact that the Ohio State Buckeyes have the highest percentage of fans in the NCAA, holding a commanding lead over any and all other NCAA teams.

The Following is a List of the Top 10 Sports Towns in the U.S.:
1) Columbus, OH
2) Boston, MA
3) Buffalo, NY
4) Pittsburgh, PA
5) Green Bay/Appleton, WI
6) Providence/New Bedford, RI
7) Denver, CO
8) Rochester, NY
9) Louisville, KY
10) Cleveland/Akron, OH

The Following is a List of the Top 10 Sports Teams With Highest Percentage of Fans in their Home City:
1) Green Bay Packers - Green Bay
2) Pittsburgh Steelers - Pittsburgh
3) St. Louis Cardinals - Saint Louis
4) Indianapolis Colts - Indianapolis
5) Ohio State Buckeyes - Columbus
6) Boston Red Sox - Boston
7) Green Bay Packers - Milwaukee
8) New Orleans Saints - New Orleans
9) San Antonio Spurs - San Antonio
10) New England Patriots - Boston

This means that based off of this subjective data that the Ohio State Buckeyes have a higher percentage of fans located in their home city than 118 professional teams of the 122 teams in the 4 major professional sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL). Pretty amazing to say the least. GO BUCKS!!

:oh:

FYI the Cleveland Indians came in 13th, the Cincinnati Bengals 16th, and the Cleveland Browns 20th. The Reds did not make the top 25, and the only other college teams that made the top 25 were the Kentucky Wildcats at 11th, and the Tennessee Volunteers at 24th.

Sweetness. Columbus solidifies itself as a great city. I'm glad I live here. :)

(I'm curious to see how the list would change with the NHL markets in Canada added)

Iv lived in Montreal, they thought their city was crazy about their Habs and I had to keep explaining to them that they were wrong.

that's awesome. i lived in chicago for awhile though and i'd say that is one hell of a sports town as well.
I bet, however, interestingly enough this survey has them all the way down at #42! Also, the Bears fall at #23 just ahead of the Volunqueers.
