I don't think Purdue will be stealing any Tressel recruits anytime soon.

I've seen these "ratings" pop up on a number of message boards, and they are simply not even close to being statistically valid.
True, they are not statistically valid. However, they remain valid grist for discussion on their own terms.

kaligula said:
Volunteer sampling from any population set is almost always biased, and in this case, the fact that ratings are not even weighted by a variety of factors makes these ratings even more of a joke. Let's not even mention the small sample sizes, which are simply too small to allow calculation of a meaningful weighted statistic, much less estimate the sampling error.
I do hope you realize I do not disagree with much of what you are saying about this coaches rating site. (Though I disagree that weighting the factors accomplishes too much. That survey is what it is, trying to make a silk purse out of an entertaining sows ear is a waste of time. In its defense they did apply some {undisclosed} cut-off on too few respondents.) However I feel I have to ask, given this thread is largely looking to compare how coaches come across to their players, in a mostly light-hearted fashion -- So what?

For example, volunteer ratings should probably be weighted by class, with seniors carrying more weight than freshman.
Would you apply the same veteran weighting to elections?:)
In the context of the survey itself -- What if say, Coach P has a truly bad episode that one year, does it make the perception of the frosh invalid? Rhetorical question of course for the answer is no, it does not.
Notwithstanding which it would be interesting to know the demographics of the pool of respondents.

Anyway -- good start to posting on the site and I hope the moderators can lasso you into doing statistical analysis this coming season.
