Think of it this way, would you want the assistant coaches that nobody else seems to want? michigan has only had one coach that I know of in the past few years advance somewhere else (DeBord went to head coach at CMU, now back at ttun). You don't see anybody knocking down the door to get a piece of Jim Hermann or Terry Malone action, and I think there's a reason why. They're just not good, period.

I think this is another way to think about it: Would you want your underlings to be simply satisfied with where they are? Or would you rather that they strive to do better at their current job, in hopes of landing bigger and better jobs, either within your program or in another program?

The fact that Tressel's guys are getting HC jobs elsewhere shows me that he's been hiring guys who are excelling as assistant coaches. If you're right that Michigan's guys aren't getting new jobs, then maybe they aren't doing much as assistant coaches.
