KEENAN BAILEY

QUALITY CONTROL COACH – OFFENSE

Keenan Bailey was promoted to quality control coach on offense in January, 2019. Now in his fourth season with the Buckeyes, he will work with the team’s wide receivers for a second season after doing so in 2018 when the unit set school records for receptions, yards and touchdown receptions.

Bailey, who earned his Master’s degree in 2018 from Ohio State in sports management, has been a part of back-to-back Big Ten Conference championship teams at Ohio State and also victories in the 2019 Rose Bowl and the 2018 Cotton Bowl. Ohio State was a College Football Playoff semifinalist in 2016.

Bailey first joined the Ohio State coaching staff in July of 2016 after spending two seasons at his alma mater, Notre Dame, working as a recruiting analyst for the Irish football program. He spent his first season with Ohio State as an offensive intern coaching the running backs before moving over to the wide receivers in 2017.

Bailey’s responsibilities with the Buckeyes include managing the weekly self-scouting reports for his position group, offensive playbook installations, opponent scouting and administration of recruiting social media campaigns.

Bailey has his degree in American studies from Notre Dame. The native of Pompano Beach, Fla, spent his first year of college at the University of Missouri as an undergraduate assistant with the football program. The Tigers defeated Oklahoma to win the 2014 Cotton Bowl while Bailey was there.

POSITION SENIOR ADVISOR TO THE HEAD COACH

Keenan Bailey, now in his seventh season on the Ohio State football staff, was promoted to the position of Senior Advisor to the Head Coach in February, 2022. Bailey had been a quality control coach on offense for the past three seasons, during which time he worked with Ohio State’s record-setting wide receiver and quarterback units.

In his position as senior advisor, Bailey will support head coach Ryan Day and the assistant football coaches with the analysis of team and opponent game performance. He will develop and maintain defensive analyses through the breakdown of practice, game, and opponent video. He’ll also record data and chart performances to assist coaches as they develop strategies.

Additionally, Bailey will assist coaches with the recruiting process by breaking down and assessing video of prospects and interacting with recruits and families. He will assist with the creation and organization of playbooks and video content, and with football camp administration.

In 2021 Bailey was named to 247Sports’ 30 Under 30 list, and he earned his Master’s degree in 2018 from Ohio State in sports management. He has been a part of four consecutive Big Ten Conference championship teams at Ohio State (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020) and also victories in the 2022 and 2019 Rose Bowls, the 2020 College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Sugar Bowl and the 2018 Fiesta Bowl. Ohio State was a College Football Playoff semifinalist in 2016, 2019 and 2020.

Seems like a great recruiter wr coach.
Glad he’s on the staff but what does he know about blocking which is the primary role of the TE. Wilson also helped out with the OL.

I’m reserving judgment to see how the rest of the staff flushes out.
He becomes OC, is Parker Fleming is retained.

The cynic in me sees this as a move to fully embrace a pass first pussyfoot old WAC offense.

This is a great move

Urban thought he enough of him to bring him on and find a place, Day ensured he stayed on staff. Don’t know a whole lot about the guy, so I’ll default to their judgement. Birm said last week that Day would find a way to keep him as a position-coach since others have been calling for him.

I’m speculating that the next move would be to promote Frye and Hartline to some co-OC role? Not sure who would go in the box though, even if Day continues play calling.

I feel you… I dont remember the players and recruits having this outpouring for Fleming….This doesn’t feel as bad as the Fleming. I am now concerned that Day now is the sole voice on the Offense but lets see… Like I said I like this hire better than Fleming…

Well to be fair we didn't really block this year either from the TE position.

I agree to an extent, you need a good mix which really we don’t have right now but this, crootin, coaching is a young man’s game anymore. This is also easily rectified by hiring a number of analysts who are older, more experienced and have different view points.
