CNNSI's Top 10 Performers from 10/15

10 of 15 passing (67%), 249 yards, no INTs, 3TDs, 272.1 QB rating.
They obviously didn't see the game.

If they did watch, they would have seen that those stats basically were the game.

He managed the game and completed passes when given the time and people just keep complaining.
He gave us 4 TD's in less than 20 min. in time of possesion.

i wouldnt say his performance deserves si's top 10 rating. stanton had a better game and we can still do vastly better. also keep in mind about 100 of those yards were YAC. nice completion ratio though and no to's so im happy there.

A QB can't be expected to complete passes only "when given time", especially when the QB is a mobile one like Smith...he has to be able to at least pick out wide open receivers while on the move. By the way, he didn't give us two of those offensive TDs, our WRs (better yet, MSU defenders) did. Now, Smith didn't have a bad game at all...in fact I'd still call it a good game. But it was nowhere near what CNNSI is giving him credit for.

He did have a costly fumble but I've just come to expect it now. He will turn it over at least once mark it down he will never tuck the ball away. Picks aren't too much of a concern he runs it most of the time anyways and doesn't try anything remotely risky usually.

I agree with Mil here, Smith didn't have a gamebreaking performance. He had some plays where the receivers broke some tackles against a sloppy Michigan St. defense. Carpenter did though........he was simply amazing on Saturday........probably one of the best performances by a linebacker that I've seen in a long time. Honestly, I think he was the biggest factor in our win on Saturday, hence why he was National Defensive player of the week for his performance against MSU.
gamebreaking, yes. he threw three long tds. a good solid game, not so much

I'd say Marques Hagans, UVA's QB, made a pretty good argument for being #1 for the week, and he didn't even make the list. He played flawless in the upset win over FSU, with a receiving core that ain't all that great.

Bobby C definitely deserves the pub he's getting for his performance. Hawk played just as well, however, and isn't getting the same pub because, well, he gets it every week from the announcers and columnists.

Now I agree with that and I don't dispute the fact that Smith was quite short of a game of the week performance. I just thought that you were one of the bitter few who still complain about Smith's performance week in and week out.
I was on the TS bandwagon near the beginning of the season, but have grown to realize that he is only adequate at the moment.
The matter of the fact is that our best Quarterback very well be 3rd or 4th string and just is not ready.
So I can live with Smith for now as long as he plays the way he has, which is basically spurts of greatness but consistently average. Hopefully he can grow out of the latter with a full year under the gun.
