Cleveland Indians (2013 Season)

According to Jordan Bastian:

Chris Perez since Aug. 1: 7.52 ERA, .345 opponents' average (30-for-87), 1.87 WHIP, 20.1 IP, 21 games, 10-for-13 saves, 24 K, 8 BB, 7 HR

Oldie but goodie fan comment on Cleveland.com:
I put a Chris Perez poster on my door and now it won't close.

I think he's pitching hurt...probably same shoulder "strain" that caused him to miss most of March. His fastball is down a few mph and does not have the same movement it used to have.....it used to break down and away from right handed hitters and now looks like sails up and in much of the time. His breaking ball also looks a bit flatter. He showed much of the same the latter parts of 2012, which explains why it was reported there was little trade interest for him last winter.

Time to move on from the Pure Rage show. The Tito interviews after last night's game seems to say that Tito agrees. Now what? Joe Smith is my bet.

Hopefully that was the final nail in the coffin.

I said a few weeks back that I'd like to see them give Carrasco a look in the closer role. Not now, mind you...but next spring. There's no denying the arm, and he might just be crazy enough to thrive in that role.

The rumblings on twitter... Masterson might be asked to close. Kinda makes sense since it won't shake up the rest of the bullpen order and really could Masterson get back up to speed to start a game and go 7+ innings? Could be by World Series but if we don't have a closer then that is a mute point. Masterson started his career in the bullpen so he knows what to do.

Also, looks like Perez went to Tito and told him he shouldn't be closing anymore because he is costing the team. At least that is the report... so Perez knows he is sucking ass at the moment.

What do you do with Weedman then? Set up? Yuck

Should have been more clearer then... mop up duty for the last 3 games and then not on the playoff roster. And IF he is on the playoff roster... his role better be mop up and/or in the 20th inning and we really need a pitcher

The guys on MLB Radio today seem to agree that Masterson might be available, but probably not for back to back nights and then only if he's not needed earlier in a game. Some comments suggested that having Masty go for only a few innings might reduce the chance of reinjury for his oblique strain; they felt it is a fatigue type injury and he should not go back to back for the entire postseason. Makes sense.

Plus, Ubado is really the only starter who's not had a clinker start or two in Sept. If the Tribe can actually have a few Oct. starts the odds are probably pretty good that one of those guys won't go very deep into a game. Masty could save the pen from overwork.

Masty is too valuable to expose him to a situation where he could get hurt. Allen is probably too young; only in his first full ML season. Joe Smith's agent must be making regular sacrifices to Jobu in hopes that Smith gets some solid closer work now!
