Cleveland Browns @ Baltimore Ravens, Sept. 15th, 1pm ET, CBS

I'm now not sure if Weeden is the issues. These WRs can't get open and when they do, they can't catch. This team is fucking bad from the owner to the waterboy. They are simply not NFL quality.
Little and Benjamin aren't legitimate NFL receivers. I have never seen a receiver with worse hands than Little. Benjamin might be the fastest guy in the league, but he simply can't separate from anybody.

For all the people saying "typical Cleveland fans" blame the QB, see this bull[Mark May] this game. As much of the rest of the team suck, the guy is a tub of worthless, plain and simple.

the coaching staff took responsibility for two of them. whether that's just coach speak or not, who knows, but they did lay one of them on weeden.

the bottom line on the browns is pretty simple:

is weeden a qb that will lead you to the playoffs and/or superbowl? no.
can he be an average nfl starting qb? probably.
will any qb have any shread of success with the current state of the OL and WR spots? no.
does that mean you forgo a franchise qb in the draft next year to improve the other positions? absolutely not.

but I will say the following. Alex Mack and TJ Ward are both playing themselves out of a lot of money come FA time. quite frankly, it wouldn't shock me in the least if the browns let mack walk altogether, and i don't know that i really blame them. he's been average at best this year.

Mack isn't concerning me as much as Schwartz. This is the same kid we thought was the compliment to Joe Thomas, giving us a pair of bookend tackles to work with.

He's totally regressed somehow. So as of this moment, we need at minimum 3 new offensive lineman. Because I'm pretty sure Weeden is getting hit or sacked on just about every other drop back.

I really loved the play yesterday when Weeden got sacked and at least 3 of the OL were laying on the ground next to him when he got up. I think Thomas and Mack were still on their feet. I won't fault Mack for having a bad game yesterday. Lining up against (Should have been a Brown) Ngata all game will may anyone look bad. Hopefully Mack improves as the season goes or he is going to wish he had worked out an new contract before the season.

Another play that stuck in my head was a pass where Weeden dropped back in the pocket and ended up drifting to his right. In the background I see Cousins flying backward across the screen getting pancaked by a DL that decided he would rather put Cousins square on his ass than go after Weeden.

If we learned one thing yesterday it is to shut up about wanting another QB other than Weeden this season. As bad a Weeden was Campbell was a lot worse.

I really hope getting Gordon back will open up the passing game a little. I would hope he can beat man coverage.

I like where the defense is at. Mingo looks to be a better fit at OLB than Sheard. I would love to find a team that was in desperate enough need of a pass rusher to trade a starting guard for Sheard. IMO having 3 starting quality OLB's is great but this team has critical needs elsewhere that they need to fill.

I don't watch enough CFB to know if this is the year to go after a franchise QB. Chud seems to like the mobile guys so as much as Weeden has the big arm that they want I think they would rather have a big arm and the ability to run the read option. A mobile QB would cover up some issues with the OL since he would have the ability to escape and you would move the pocket a little more which make for easier blocks most of the time.

This team will never be better until they get a #1 WR and a good OL so drafting a franchise QB next year will just set them back another year until they can fill the other critical holes. I doubt there is one in the draft, but if I could draft a Calvin Johnson clone, a franchise QB, or Clowney I'm taking the Johnson clone. A WR group of Johnson clone, Gordon, and Bess with a few new capable OL could even make Weeden look like a Super Bowl QB.

Schwartz has been terrible so far, and Mack has been average. The secondary is still weak after Haden and Gipson. However, when (not if) we have a high pick next year, you have to go QB and take a chance. They were talking on the radio this morning about using a pick too high on Richardson because RBs get injured...who is protected in this league? QBs. So using high picks on a QB, especially with the rookie cap in play now, might very well make sense for this team. We see how well the lat first round option for a QB has gone the last 2 times. I usually hate taking QBs high, but now with this team...what choice do they have?

I don't see any receivers this year that make me think CJ or Larry Fitzgerald.

And we may have the least exciting emerging QB controversy in the history of the NFL

i think there are a variety of things hamstringing the offense. the guard play and drops by wr's and lack of separation are obvious. weeden's problems are pretty obvious. but the fact that weeden can't play under center at all really tightens up the playbook considerably. couple that with the fact that cousins gets driven into the backfield constantly, and you can't really take a snap under center and have a 5 step drop.

If I'm a DC going against the Browns I overload the right side of the OL to make sure I get 1-on-1 blocking with Cousins and Schwartz and bet that one of those guys will get pressure on the QB.

If a defense only brings 4 the Browns should be able to have Mack double with 1 of the guards and chip the DE that Schwartz is blocking with a TE or RB. The problem that I saw a lot of the time is the Browns were only sending 4 guys out on routes, which is pretty easy to cover. I'd much rather see them send 4-5 guys out on a route hitting the defense at different levels with someone chipping one of the rushers on the way out to slow his momentum. If the defense brings a blitz the QB needs to hit the hot route.

It looked like they did a better job of getting the ball to Richardson yesterday, but until they open the passing game there aren't going to be running lanes.
