Cleveland Browns 2006 Draft Discussion (official thread)

How could you guys complain about or draft so far. We have solidified our defensive front and as many of you know the dline isnt as important as the linebackers in the 3-4. We also got a sleeper reciever in wilson, after watching video on him i realized that. Our first of the fourth rounders kind of baffled me but i dont question a guy that drafted something like 21 players for baltimore, 14 of which that made the pro bowl. so lets everyone relax and enjoy watching the draft and not getting down on rac and savage for passing up on buckeyes that can be taking in the 5th round.

Phil Savage, a man who has had some past success with linebackers from the state of Florida, went back to the well once more on Sunday, selecting ILB Leon Williams from Miami of Florida. The Browns also added young talent at offensive tackle, picking 330-pound blocker Isaac Sowells from Indiana two picks later.

Following a morning filled with rumors that the Browns would deal a fourth-round pick to the Detroit Lions for Joey Harrington, Phil Savage stuck to his draft board and selected two players who help to add depth at positions which are dangerously thin for the Browns: inside linebacker and offensive tackle.
With the Browns first pick in the fourth round, Savage selected linebacker Leon Williams of Miami (Florida).
Williams has been a part-time starter at Miami, pulling down 45 tackles in 2005 after 36 the year before. He is undoubtedly a player still in development - Williams shows flashes of athletic ability, but has yet to live up to his potential. If that potential is unlocked by the Browns coaching staff, he could turn out to be a terrific bargain for the Browns.
Sowells comes to the Browns after a good career on the line at Indiana, where he started at offensive guard and moved to tackle to finish out his college career. It isn't known yet if the Browns view him as a guard or tackle. A solid and consistent player, Sowells did very well during the off-season and impressed experts enough for Scout.com's Tony Pauline to call him a "solid middle-round choice".

A few thoughts...

Wilson in the third is definitly a sign that Edwards won't be ready by the start of the season so he is insurance... I liked the Jackson pick, however, the fact that he didn't plant anyone in his highlight videos was disturbing. All of his tackles seemed to be wrap up tackles without a real hit which won't work in the NFL... Williams is definitly a project and if the Browns coaches develop him right, he could be a good one from watching his highlight video... I don't know about the Indiana guard but my guess is that he is another developmental guy.

All in all I know some people are mad with this draft right now because of the lack of defensive linemen, but we should all wait to make our final judgements until the draft is done and we see these players on the field.
