Do they have a choice?

They could take it seriously, hire a competent front office and do better at draft and develop so in the long run, yes.

What we have now is a 26 man roster with 3 maybe 4 real MLB players on it and a bunch of replacement level dreck. No big time talent knocking down the door in the minors, no money for free agents and no ability to spend what little money they do have wisely.

The roster is a reflection of ownership.

This version of Reds probably hits into more horrible double plays than any I've seen. Steer had one earlier in the game tonight with Elly on 3rd base with 1 out. That should be an automatic run scored for a competent team.

Seriously though elly's job in that spot isn't to take fastballs over the plate and then walk leaving it up to freaking Dane Myers. Grow a pair and go win a game man!
