Cincinnati Reds (2026 Season Thread)

that comp is pretty crazy:

The Donkey suffered from being a man ahead of his time.

In today's baseball his value would have been properly identified.

Instead he had that fucking idiot Marty and his 'I played baseball when I was a kid so I know the game" mob of bigger morons he channeled still jerking off to Pete Rose posters and talking about batting average.

MLB Winter Meetings: Live updates, rumors, news and analysis as hot stove week continues Wednesday

Reds considering Marte and Lowe

After losing out on Kyle Schwarber, the Reds are mulling over pursuits of Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte and Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe, reports The Athletic. Marte is in high demand, though the Reds are deep in young starting pitching, which is what the D-backs are said to want in any trade. That could give them a leg up in trade talks.

Lowe, 31, slugged 31 home runs in 2025, and will make $11.5 million in 2026, the final year of his contract. As a Rays player making good money, Lowe is definitely available, and Tampa is said to be seeking pitching as well. Hunter Greene and Andrew Abbott are presumably off limits. In that case, the Reds could dangle Nick Lodolo and/or Rhett Lowder, and maybe even Chase Burns.

I could see them making a run at Brandon Lowe knowing he would be a one year rental at a reasonable salary. Maybe you would give up a Rhett Lowder in that situation. But Chase Burns better be off the table unless you get a certified all-star in return considering how many years Burns is still under team control. The Reds couldn’t possibly bungle that, could they???

What are we doing here? Ahead of his time with an 18 WAR? 1.5 WAR per 162 games. Wade Boggs, who apparently was behind the times, had a 91.4 WAR. 6.1 per 162 games. Nearly identical OPS numbers, btw.

Ahead of his time as in 3 true outcome guy > singles hitters (normal singles hitters, not Boggs)

And for the record, 20.8 of his career 25.g fWAR was delivered during his 7 years as a Red. 2.97 WAR per year with a high of 5.3 in '04 and people were bitching about strikeouts and him jogging to the outfield while we had the worst pitching in the league.
