Cincinnati Reds 2019 season (Black Hole)

Cincinnati Reds welcome San Diego Padres in crowded Wild Card battle

  • The Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres find themselves teetering on the brink in the National League Wild Card race. The next three days will determine who moves forward and who turns their sights squarely to 2020.
Following another missed opportunity in which the Cincinnati Reds (58-65) split a four-game set with St. Louis Cardinals, the Reds postseason hopes are barely producing a pulse. Facing a 7-game deficit for the NL Wild Card, the Redlegs will need to start rattling off some victories quickly

This past week may well have determined the Reds fate for 2019 season. After being swept in Washington, the Reds were able to salvage the week from being a total disaster. This will be the final meeting between the Reds and Padres in the 2019 season. Cincinnati took 3-of-4 from San Diego in April at Petco Park.

One win in this series will provide the Reds with a winning record against the Friars in 2019, which in recent years, has been the exception. The Reds have not won a season series from the Padres since 2012 and have only won two such series from San Diego over the past decade.

A winning series should be in the cards for the Reds as they send their trip aces to the mound. Right-handers Trevor Bauer, Sonny Gray and Luis Castillo will toe the rubber versus the Padres. The trio of righties should spell trouble against a heavily right-handed hitting lineup in San Diego.

The Friars are slashing just .243/.306/.427 when facing right-handed pitching. As a team, the Reds have limited right-handed batters to a .227/.294/.374 slash line. Expect to see relievers Michael Lorenzen and Raisel Iglesias get plenty of work over the next three days.
