I just find the situation funny.

Look, if he comes in here and wins some games and keeps us in the hunt till Joe Fragile gets back, it was worth it.

They had to try something. They couldn't just let the season be lost. There was already obvious fan revolt.

This is a rather harmless attempt to salvage the season. My only true concern is that he wins us just enough games to ruin our chances of a top 5 pick in next year's draft, but not enough to keep us in contention.
