No, not so much... this is his 9th infraction or warning... and... quite a wide range of mods have given them.... at least 6 different ones, anyway.

As to the other comments about being able to say whatever you want...

I'll reiterate the usual BP line on free speech... and... its no one's intent to stifle anyone's opinion on the poli board... but... if you want to talk about dubya lying or whatever... there are 8000 threads to do that. And... the argument, "well this guy might have lied, but that guy lied more, so its okay" isn't exactly what we're looking for here. But there is still room to point out hypocrisy and to tie in other related issues within threads... but... constantly lobbing completely unrelated hand grenades is counterproductive.

Bottom line is the Poli board was orginally a temp forum... for the '04 elections... and... its nearly been closed on a number of occasions...

Back when not too many people posted on it... it was easy to police... primarily by just threadjacking... and... for those of us who were around here during the '04 election... things got pretty heated sometimes... but... it was a small enough group that we could just poke fun at each other to lighten things up.

Unfortunately for Taos... and others who have come and gone from both sides of the spectrum... this stuff is far to important to them for comedy, lightheartedness or even tolerance apparently. So different tactics are sometimes needed.

The long and short of it is that "being outraged" by the comments or views of others isn't going to fly in the long run... nor is viewing your own opinion as "inherently right." or others as "inherently wrong."

And.. yeah... people get warnings and infractions here, all the time. You will get a PM when/if it happens. Speaking personally, I have only given warnings on the poliboard... but... I try to leave the "real" policing to the poliboard mods... and defer to them as much as possible to maintain a reasonable level of consistency.

Well said, AKAK.

So just out of curiosity, is Toas perma-banned? I ask because to be honest, he does contribute a lot and even though I may not agree with what he has to say, at least he has the balls to say it. I don't know how big of a douche he is in the poli forums because as a liberal-democrat those forums kind of look like they aren't "my thing."

I don't think he is (I thought it was for a week, but I could be getting that confused with another recent banee), but maybe one of the mods who did it will come back to answer you.

I believe he has a permaban from the poli forum
So, does that mean no more long screeds, which are actually C-V jobs from other blogs, where you have to search for the link - because it is buried at the bottom of the page, or not there at all? :wink2:

Should make reading those threads a little easier.

Sad, though, that he will be banned from a forum about which he is obviously passionate.
Are permabans truly permanent? - (Past tibor75 bans come to mind).

but will be able to contribute to other forums in 7 days from the time he was banned.
Good, after all this is a Buckeye forum and Taos, love him, hate him, find him annoying or funny (intentionally or by mistake), well he is a Buckeye fan. That is what brought him here in the first place.

Hmmm... perhaps permaban was the wrong word. I think a "forum ban" can be reversed by an admin at any time.

Taos simply needs a break. He had vowed not to post in the poli forum after has last ban, but he was back in full force before long. He had some good points but didn't really know how to express himself most of the time without coming across as a "wacko.". I can relate to his passion; it's hard to read some of those threads without getting fired up!
