Chris WormLLLLLey (traitor)

Scout $ - Wormley Still a Wanted Man

2/14

By Sam Webb...talks about being focused on basketball season (team is 14-1)...Hoke was at his school a few weeks ago...says UM has moved up in his eyes because of the coaching change...still has OSU and UM at the top.

I see him ending up at UM, which is fine. In other years I would be more concerned, but if OSU can keep Lewis, Pittman, McMullen and Washington from leaving the state, I will be elated. Those who have seen Wormley more than I have say he is great when he is on but disappears for stretches. I am interested to see how he does this year without Hayes to divert some of the attention.

I would probably want Odenigbo more from the tape I've seen, as well as his strong performance at the combine recently. But I haven't seen or heard much about Lewis so I can't say for certain.

Agree with Wade. You have no reason to cry if we lose out on a DE or 2 in-state, even if it is to your biggest rival.

That said, I still REALLY want Chris to be a part of this amazing Buckeye recruiting class. Kid's a stud.

Wormley is one of the top ranked prospects in Ohio for 2012 and is also one of the main targets for the Michigan staff. He's been on campus before, but this was his first chance to see the new coaches in action.

My mom and dad were up there with me. We watched practice first, went to lunch, and then they took us on a tour of the locker room and everything. I noticed in practice that the coaches are real patient and there's not a lot of yelling. It definitely helped me get a better understanding of how they coach and how they work. This visit definitely helped Michigan.

Chris also got a chance to get some one on one time with Coach Montgomery and Mattison.

We were just talking about general stuff, just chit chat. They talked about the defense and that I would most likely be playing what they call the rusher position on the outside.

While Chris has been on campus before, this visit gave him a little bit of a better understanding for the program in general. He talked about the academics and when he wants to make his decision.

I think what stood out to me the most was how seriously they take the academics up there. The academics are first and football's second; I like that. My parents were having some good conversations too, so it was good. I either want to make my decision before the season starts or after. It will be too big of a distraction during the season. If I'm not 100% comfortable then I'll do it after the season.

Michigan has been high on Wormley's list for some time and the new coaching staff has made a definite impression on him and his family. It's a race now between Michigan and Ohio State for Wormley.

Chris Wormley throws the discus for Whitmer. The Panthers swept the discus and shot put relays.

Whitmer, led by Chris Wormley and a strong field events contingent, finished runner-up in the team standings with 74 points, followed by St. John?s Jesuit with 71, Adrian 68, Southview 60, Central Catholic 59, St. Francis 55.5, Clay 49, Findlay 44, Northview 37, Bedford 36, Start 31, Bowsher 25, Delta 19, Springfield 10, and Toledo Christian 1.

Boys team runner-up Whitmer got a first-place double from junior three-sport standout Chris Wormley, the highly sought after defensive end football recruit who helped Whitmer to a City football title and to the Division I state semifinals.

Wormley won the discus with a heave of 171-3 on Wednesday and added a shot put title yesterday with a 52-3.25 effort.

?Everything I do [in the three sports] helps all around,? said Wormley, whose top two colleges choices right now are Michigan first and Ohio State second, followed by Michigan State and Notre Dame. ?It keeps me conditioned throughout the season. [Track] ties into everything.?

Throughout Friday?s action, Wormley, who was ultimately named the meet?s outstanding male field events athlete, had his mind on an accident during warm-ups.

Is there a recruit in this class that has as big of a differing opinion from people than Chris? People seem to be all over the board on him. Looks like he has the physical tools but not the mental makeup of a defensive force. I would guess that is where it stems from.

Three Sport Guy - Chris Wormley
The evaluating of college bound football players, for obvious reasons, is very important to me. Sometimes those evaluations take time, because I get calls from college coaches wanting to know how I compare different players. With high profile prospects, I evaluate them thoroughly. Trust me, I do not rely on what others have said. Chris Wormley was one of those guys I evaluated.

As a sophomore, one could see his potential, but only a sophomore and he needed to play harder and more often. Last year, watched him against Massillon and his motor was fine tuned. Played hard and made plays. Strong off the edge and good burst. Last winter watched him play basketball against Toledo Central Catholic. Moved well in the paint. Solid rebounder. Long arms. Never changed his expression, but was very determined. Above all he competed.

This past Wednesday, drove to the District Track Meet in Toledo. One of the guys I wanted to see was Chris Wormley. Has really worked on trimming down his body. Long. Looks good at 6'6 - 270. Excellent balance in the shot and discus rings. Came into the meet with a 170 discus toss to his credit. First throw - 129 feet. Second throw - 131 feet. Won the discus with a throw of 161 feet in the finals. On Saturday won the shot with a put of 53'2.

Talked with a Whitmer dad at the Nike Combine. He said that Chris would loved to have been there, because he just "loves to compete."

Early I did not have Chris rated as high as some other DL guys. Now I do. Problem- eventually I see him as at DT, rather at DE. If he makes the switch, he will be one of the quickest inside guys around. Chris wants to stay at DE, but DT could be a money maker.

Sam Webb: What about Toledo Whitmer four-star defensive end Chris Wormley? Chris had Michigan and Ohio State tied for quite some time before he revealed last month that Michigan had moved firmly out front. How do you think things will play out with him?

Allen Trieu: Even through all the things that he was saying, I always felt like Michigan was the leader for Chris. I think Michigan is the clear leader now and I think it would be an upset if he went anywhere but Michigan.

Bill Greene: I have had Wormley going to Michigan since the Ohio State camp last year. I still see Chris Wormley at Michigan and I've never wavered from that. We'll see.
