Chris Petersen to Mississippi State??

Local News denying the reports.

Boise State head football coach Chris Petersen has denied rumors that he will be the next football coach at Mississippi State.
There are plenty of coaching vacancies in college football and not surprisingly Petersen continues to be mention for many of the openings.

Late Friday afternoon, Petersen released this statement to NewsChannel 7...

"I have a lot of respect for director of athletics Greg Byrne and the Mississippi State athletic program, but I am not taking the head coaching position at Mississippi State. Mississippi State has not offered me the head coaching position. I normally do not comment on coaching positions at other schools, but felt I needed to do so in this situation. We are very happy here at Boise State and look forward to our upcoming bowl game later this month."

In regards to Petersen, wasn't he the brainchild behind Boise State even when Hawkins was there?

I'm sure they both schemed up plays and whatnot, but when Hawkins left, I think I recall a lot of West Coast media saying Hawkins rode the coat tails of Petersen anyways. Boise State wasn't losing anything but name recognition when he left.

A Mississippi television station cited sources inside Mississippi State University's Athletic Department that Petersen has been offered a four-year contract worth almost $9 million. Our affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi, WAPT, told Today's Channel 6, Petersen met with school officials in Denver to discuss the open position. MSU's coach, Sylvester Croom, stepped down last week.

not over yet

read on our board a few minutes ago about a radio prick (Finebaum) in Bama that claims to have a source as well.
Said Petersen rejected 1st offer, but Moo U AD wouldn't take no for an answer. Said a deal was close, but still 50/50

Idaho is a great place to live hunt and fish.

then why look in the state of Mississippi?[/i]

Because Idaho makes Mississippi looks like the freakin' rainbow coalition.

have any of you ever been to Starkville?

Driven through. Keep in mind my personal views that everything in about 500 miles of there is a steaming pile of shit as well.

This dude passed up the UCLA and Washington jobs to take this one?

From what I heard on the radio yesterday, the athletic facilities at Washington are in a shambles. If/when the school administration asks for handouts from the State, then Wazzou will be right there next in line. It appears that the money is not going to flow there just yet. Poor facilities are not going to attract top tier talent (coaching or athletic).

* I should note that I haven't a clue about Mississippi State's facilities.
