Chris Holtmann (ex-tOSU Bball coach, HC at DePaul)

I love Holtmann but I've definitely soured on him the last 2 years...I don't think Ohio St should win Natties on the reg like a facebooker, but a B1G title 1 every 5 years is a fair ask (for any non-football coach - again, this is Ohio fucking State...playing with almost every advantage). If he pulls this off he's completely redeemed himself in my eyes. A B1G title buys a ton of rope.

They've already done something no other team has ever done in the B1G tournament - win three games to get to the semifinals. That's an accomplishment in itself given where this team was 2-3 weeks ago. Actually winning it from this position would damn near be a miracle.

And doing it today without (arguably) their best player. Thornton/Gayle could be a force next season. I’m not giving Holtmann a pass on this season as a whole, January/February was inexcusable flu shits, but the finish is impressive by any measure.

They're pretty active on Facebook too. There are more than a few calling these losers out though.

I'm laughing at how many tweets are wondering if Holtmann did enough to save his job, as if Smith was even considering firing him.

Hopefully what we saw out of the freshmen this week is a sign of what they can do next season. If it goes south again, though...

Yeah there wasn’t much Holtman could do. Short handed and tired players. The referees took the game over late in the first half and allowed Edey to camp in the paint and run around like a bull in a china shop. Won’t be taking Purdue to go far.

Nice run by the team to end the year. Hoping for an NIT bid for them to get more time together.
Speaking of Edey, when is the last time anyone here has ever seen a 3-second call in college?

Glad the team didn't just roll over and call it after their losing streak. They showed that we have plenty to be excited about next season.

Also happy to see this for Holtmann. I really want to see him succeed, he seems like such a good dude. I think I was ready for a move. Happy to be wrong.

I had given up on this team...glad they didn't think that way like you said. I expect way more from the team next year, but at least it was an inspired effort at the end. If we went out in the first game or two, then I would be way less enthusiastic about next year.

Also really want CH to succeed...I think most do. Problem is that he just keeps giving fleeting hope at points where it doesn't matter, or we look like one of the best teams in the country but somehow are an early out in the Tourney. A year or two of that here and there are fine, but we just don't have anything to point to recently. Next year is do or die, anything short of a Sweet 16 run being die imo...and really no Elite 8 is a problem if we have everyone back and no decommits. I hope Holtmann does just that, love the guy but personality pales in comparison to results at some point.

I think as time sets in and we distance ourselves from this very impressive B1G Tourney run, we'll see a 3-1 finish doesn't overrule a 13-18 season.

We saw a lot of positives in the tourney, but also things we should have seen much, much, much earlier. The young guns should have gotten the run way earlier. It's clear if Zed returns next year he needs to come off the bench, he slows this team up way too much. The whole year this team played too damn slow.

CCH is a nice guy, I'm sure this will be hated but my ideal turn of events is he goes to Notre Dame which is a decently high profile, low pressure job and Sean Miller comes in and takes this team to their next level.

That said, this team is shaping up very well next year to have Thornton/Gayle/Middleton/Royal/Okpara start, you'd have Chatman off the bench at guard, Brown for the wing, and Key at center running with the 2nd unit which is best for him at this point. We still need another big that can run and for depth and if Etzler isn't ready for that in year 3 it's not going to happen for him here. There's hope regardless, but if CCH is back next year and hasn't made any adjustments to his style I'll feel like that GEICO commercial based off of Texas Chainsaw Massacre where the girl goes, 'Why don't we just get into the running car?!'.
