Pain is an opinion.

Possibly at corner too...word has it that Chekwa could bolt if the money looks about right. With Amos and Chekwa gone, that would leave a spot to compete for at corner and at Coleman's spot. Of course he would have to earn it with guys like Howard, O. Johnson, Corey Brown, Barnett, Clarke, etc. there, but the opportunity is there. If nothing else, I would love to see Joyner return punts and kicks, plus kick coverage and punt coverage.

I can confirm that Chim will leave if he's looked at as even a top 3. Joyner should love his chances of early playing time here.

A top 3 what? I think our fans overestimate the draft stock of Gibson and Chekwa. I expect both to be back if they want to go in the first couple rounds.

Chekwa would get Ashton Youboty treatment.

Gibson could be a high pick though, IMO.

The longer this goes, the better you have to feel about Joyner though. OSU's defense looking great, FSU's looking horrible. Playing time a plenty here.

Gibson has position issues in the NFL. I'll leave that at that since this thread is about Joyner.

What do you mean? I think he looks like a great OLB prospect. Better OLB prospect than Vern (then again, I think Vern was a much better DE prospect).

I don't think Chekwa will be a first-rounder this year. Next year, maybe.

Joyner would have the opportunity to get playing time no matter what Chekwa does though. Losing Coleman and Amos will open up a lot of competition, as someone else said.

That's the thing though, he hasn't played any outside linebacker. It wasn't so much what position will he play, but the question is does he have the footwork and agility and presence to play OLB. Can he drop into coverage against a TE? Can he play without his hand in the dirt? I think another year here and those questions would be answered. Have to remember this is only his first year of being the unquestioned starter and playing at a high level.

Chekwa's been great so far. He keeps it up, he should be a lock for day 1.

Gibson seems like a more natural 3-4 OLB prospect than Vern ever was. Doubt he's a 1st rounder at this point but some more games like Illinois may put him there.

I think we'll have a pretty good idea at the end of this year. He's shown more agility and better football instincts than a number 6 overall pick a couple years ago.

Pretty sure he's played without his hand in the dirt plenty this year. Maybe I'm wrong? Haven't had the opportunity to watch the games as closely this year. But I'm pretty certain....

Maybe as a stand up end, but I'm talking about playing as an actual linebacker, kind of like what we did with Will Smith when he was a senior on certain downs. I'd love to see it this year in some looks because it would both a.) Give the defense a new look and would definitely confuse some offenses and b.) it would improve Gibson's draft status.

I know we all hate to see players declare early, but that's how we keep getting the Gibson's of the world, by selling them on the fact that we can and will get them to the NFL.

I don't think Aaron Maybin covered a TE very often if at all at PSU, but his pass rushing ability and overall athleticism got him a nice paycheck. I could see Gibson checking in 5 spots later in this year's draft, possibly higher if he continues to improve.

He was the starter for most of last season.
