TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State senior running back Jermaine Thomas has been declared academically ineligible for the Champs Sports Bowl and will not play in his final college game.
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said Wednesday Thomas did not pass one of his classes during the fall semester. Fisher says Thomas was the only player on the roster who is academically ineligible for the Dec. 29 game against Notre Dame.
Thomas was Florida State's second-leading rusher in 2011, gaining 279 yards and a touchdown. He averaged 4.6 yards per carry.

Officers made contact with Jenkins around 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon, according to the report. The Seminoles began practice around 2 p.m. Jenkins was there.
After approaching him to talk about the motorcycle, officers ultimately arrested Jenkins. After being read his Miranda rights, the 19-year-old told officers that around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, he saw the motorcycle lying on the ground. He told them he then took it to his apartment and placed it in his private room. Jenkins shares the apartment with a roomate, but said the roomate was out until 3 a.m. and did not see the motorcycle.
According to the report, when pushed further by police about the motorcycle theft, Jenkins said: "anyone who leaves a motorcycle out in the open should expect to have it stolen."
He also told officers that he knew how to operate motorcycles, but had not gotten a chance to tinker with it before they arrived, the report said. He was planning on riding it sometime Sunday, though, the report added.
Upon recovery, the motorcycle was returned to the owner who stated it was "damaged extensively." No dollar amount has yet been placed on the damage.
Commack is alleged to have stolen an iPad, valued at $600. During its investigation of the matter last week, FSU police determined that the computer was wiped clean of the initial owner's information and was used to sign onto FSU's wireless entry system with the digital student ID code matching Commack's.

The rash of arrests of FSU athletes comes after a very quiet year. Aside from the eventually dropped perjury charges on cornerback Greg Reid during the regular season, no other Seminoles athletes have been arrested in recent months.
