Former LSU Safety (and outfielder/relief pitcher) was seriously injured in a car wreck this morning. 3rd round pick for NY Giants, just signed his 1st contract a week or 2 ago.

hit a pole with his SUV.
left leg broken in multiple places, and reported to have exposed nerves and arteries at the scene. lost a lot of blood.

spent several hours in surgery today trying to return blood flow to his foot.
don't know how serious an option amputation was, but it was mentioned in a few articles I read.

currently in recovery, and early prognosis is "positive" (scary that they don't say "good").

one of only 2 players to win a BCS title and Baseball national title (other was Jared Mitchell, his teammate for both titles).

there were two people in the car with him. don't know if they were family or not. both were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

feel bad for the guy.
from everything i've ever read, he and his brother (Rahim Alem, drafted by Bengals this year) are both really great people.

wish him the best of luck, and hope he can at the very least resume a normal quality of life.

wasn't sure how big a story this was outside of Louisiana and possibly among Giants fans.

Very amazing anyone survived this crash! Sounds like recovery is going better than expected by early reports.
