During his Wednesday press conference, Jake Diebler said, “We've been healthier, but we're trending in the right direction.”
One player in particular on the injury front is John Mobley Jr., as the guard went down and headed to the locker room with 1:30 left after being tended to by the trainers in Sunday's exhibition game win over Butler.
The junior stepped on Ivan Njegovan's foot while backpedaling, grabbing at his right ankle as he went down.

Ohio State got in the win column to conclude its preseason exhibitions, winning 82-73 over Butler in its final tune-up before starting the regular season on Nov. 2 against BYU.

"He hasn't been back on the court yet, but we don't anticipate it taking too long," Diebler said at Ohio State's practice gym. "We're just, for all the obvious reasons, being cautious and hopefully getting back out there sooner rather than later."
Diebler was then asked if he was worried there would be anybody the Buckeyes wouldn't have this upcoming Monday against No. 25 BYU, to which he replied with "not yet."
"We'll have more clarity, I think, come Friday. We'll have a pretty good feeling what we're looking at, because obviously we've got to start getting our rotations locked in," Diebler said. "But as of right now, I don't think we're in a position right now where we're going to say we're going to be missing anybody, but I'm also not in a position to say we're not going to be missing anybody yet. So hopefully we'll have a good feel here in the next couple of days."
Mobley is coming off a 2025-26 season where he averaged 15.7 points per game, starting in 31 games. He tested NBA draft waters, but ultimately ended up back in Columbus after feedback from the professional ranks.

The guard is expected to be the leader of this year's squad, already gaining recognition from the conference as a preseason All-Big Ten team selection.
In the first exhibition of the year against Cincinnati, Mobley led the Buckeyes in scoring in 15 points. During the secret scrimmage against Louisville, there was no box score made available, but a source told Eleven Warriors that he played well. During the win over Butler, Mobley was second in scoring with 17 points, trailing Amare Bynum's 23.
"He's a student of the game. He's got a really high basketball IQ. He works so hard. He lives in the gym," Diebler said of Mobley.
