CFN's 2005 OSU Analysis

And under-rate Ginn....but then again, the game came out before anyone could have known.
The game came out before I was even aware he would be #7. Or any of the other freshmen, for that matter. When does the team release the roster and jersey numbers? It seems like it must be pretty early to get into the game.

Like everyone else, I'm not surprised with the 10 rating for LBs. It seems to me that the biggest/only weakness is that you can't play them all at the same time. But the 10 for the WRs - that surprised me. Of course, I was surprised to hear that Holmes was Playboy All-American, so maybe a 10 is right.

A wonderful site with great insight. The sick part is they do that for all 119 1-A College Football teams and has the most insight into college football than any other place you can find. Also one of those rare sights that actually predicted that Ohio State would beat Miami in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl.

Just to throw the link up for people to this wonderful website if you have not visited yet... http://www.collegefootballnews.com

But where did you get this review? They haven't posted the Ohio State Review on the front page yet?
As was pointed out earlier you can sub in the other teams names, if they have been covered, you will find CFN's ratings on that crew.

Here is a list of the Big Ten and XII teams already with Previews up:
From the Big XII these teams have been covered.
CFB predicting Colorado winners in the North, Texas winning in the South (i.e., beating Oklahoma in Red River)

Colorado http://www.collegefootballnews.com/big_12/2005_Previews/Colorado_Preview.htm
Missouri http://www.collegefootballnews.com/big_12/2005_Previews/Missouri_Preview.htm
Kansas State http://www.collegefootballnews.com/big_12/2005_Previews/KansasState_Preview.htm
Iowa State http://www.collegefootballnews.com/big_12/2005_Previews/IowaState_Preview.htm

From the Big Ten the following teams are covered.

Iowa http://www.collegefootballnews.com/big_ten/2005_Previews/Iowa_Preview.htm
Ohio State http://www.collegefootballnews.com/big_ten/2005_Previews/OhioState_Preview.htm
Wisconsin http://www.collegefootballnews.com/big_ten/2005_Previews/Wisconsin_Preview.htm

Ohio State is the the predicted winner of the Big Ten.

Before I get ripped to shreds by y'all...

I would've rated OSU's WRs at a 9.2

Good point...but its not just that.

I mean look from top to bottom. The only place where I'd say tOSU defintely has more talent is LB'er and Secondary. JMO though.

WR's/TE's are about as even as it gets.
Wish that CFN had up the Texas Preview pages, it would make for an interesting comparison. However, even your assessment still gives the Buckeyes an overall edge as I read it. For what it is worth one of the keys to success CFN uses for Texas in their preparations for the 2005 campaign is the ability to get Young to actually use his receivers on a consistent basis.
What needs working on ... Making Vince Young more of a passer, but don't shackle him. Everyone knows Young can run and is one of the nation's most electrifying players. Now he has to show that he can throw the ball on a consistent basis after Texas finished 106th in the nation in passing. Limas Sweed is a good looking young receiver ready to break out and should be a reliable target for Young.
I have not gone through all the conferences but here are some other team previews in other conferences: Some links come from the 2005 Preview page, others are URLS proven to be right

Something odd happened to this thread -- coincident with H2Ho720 getting put on hold... Perhaps he fell of the balance beam.

Shame I had Tim Brown's Frosh stats ready to pile onto his last piece of crap about Ginn being hyped, "purely because of punt returns" as deodorant. Ah well, I'm guessing he never saw Brown through all 4 seasons of college play.

haha ok H2Ho720- We read your write up on your team? We heard that the O-line can't gaurd worth a damn and your secondary is getting lite up by your recievers.

Only thing I will say is considering our Db's/D-Line are both better with the exception of Watson that doesn't bode well for your offense.

I think the possible 1-4 record against OSU in the past 5 years is starting to get the best of michingan fans hu?

Also I'm surprised no one caught this but Iowa doesn't play any competition in the early part of the year. That could be huge with our buckeyes having played Texas going into the Iowa game so the speed and intensity of the Iowa game won't nearly be as of shock. Iowa might not be use to our speed/intesity. If we hit them in the mouth early we might have a very very good chance at putting them away early.

I was always pissed when i used them because they did not make clarret good enough, even in the next one where he ended up suspended all season anyways.
dude he was rated 85 as a freshman in the first game, based solely on his HS hype and his spring performance, that's a huge rating for a freshman, wasn't he 95 in '04??? not too many soph. ranked that high at any position, if any

They seem to overrate Lydell Ross.
true, but he was very solid down the stretch in '04, so i thought it was a decent rating, plus if you look around the game in '05, the ratings are generally much higher, there are lots of MAC, WAC, etc. backs rated higher than Ross was, so an 88 in '05 isn't nearly as good as an 88 in '04, the way i see it

CFN has an article on top spring position battles, OSU's featured battle is for runningback:

Battleground Ohio State:Columbus, Ohio
Position
: Running back
Combatants
: Erik Haw, Antonio Pittman and Maurice Wells
Early Edge
: Pittman
Things just haven’t been the same at Running Back U. since Maurice Clarett last carried the ball in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. Lydell Ross and Maurice Hall weren’t up to the Buckeyes’ usual standards, leaving a trio of underclassmen to raise the bar, and give the offense a threat in the running game. Pittman showed flashes last fall, running for 389 yards, while Haw used his redshirt year. Wells will join the mix in the summer. All three are speed backs, none of whom can be leaned on to move piles. Whether one player emerges as the feature back or a committee is necessary, someone needs to step up this month if Ohio State is to fulfill lofty expectations in 2005.

All I know is that I played a season with a made-up team, and "HB #30" from Ohio State won the Heisman. You're probably right about whatever numbers and stuff he has compared to other people in the game. When the guy who is supposed to be Lydell Ross wins the Heisman, something is really odd.

No, they didn't. Problem is, they don't have a field vision attribute(awareness doesn't count for much in overall rankings). Lydell probably fit all of the physical attributes that they gave him pretty closely.
except break tackle of course.......Pittman broke more tackles than Lydell, they rated him high in that category simply because of his size
